Putin: Russia Won't Send Troops to Iraq
MOSCOW -- President Vladimir Putin said Russia won't contribute troops to an international peacekeeping force in Iraq, adding that the latest United Nations resolution had fallen short of creating conditions for Moscow's involvement.

Putin, in an interview with Italian media posted on the Kremlin Web site Tuesday, said that further action is needed to increase the U.N.'s political clout in Iraq and speed up the transfer of power to the Iraqis.

"In order to achieve the full unity of the international community on Iraq, it's necessary to take further steps aimed at giving the United Nations more opportunities for directly managing the political situation in that country," Putin said.

"Until that happens, many countries will see certain restrictions on their active participation in rebuilding Iraq," he said.

4. it can only get worse
what leader is now going to commit troops to Iraq and face the wrath of his people with so many tragic deaths amongst US servicemen.

What an unholy mess and the men that created it should be in the dock.

6. Spain Bulgaria, Netherlands moved staff out

The Spanish Embassy will remain open but with minimal staffing and a significant number of its 29-member staff is being pulled out, a Foreign Ministry official said.

"We have taken staff out of Baghdad temporarily given that it is a very complicated moment," Spanish Foreign Minister Ana Palacio was quoted as saying by the Spanish news agency Europa Press. She did not say exactly how many diplomats were being withdrawn.

In late October, Bulgaria and the Netherlands moved Embassy staff in Iraq to Jordan, both citing safety concerns following a attacks on diplomatic and humanitarian agencies - including deadly bombings at the Turkish Embassy and the U.N. headquarters.

Spain has about 1,300 soldiers based in Iraq and was one of the strongest supporters of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq despite massive public opposition at home.

Also in Baghdad, Iraq's Central Criminal Court Tuesday convicted Abu Haydar Abdul Mun'im, the former governor of the holy Shiite Muslim city of Najaf, and sentenced him to 14 years in prison for corruption, misuse of government property and kidnapping.

Mun'im was appointed governor by the U.S. forces soon after the invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein in April. He was arrested on June 30 at the request of an Iraqi investigative judge

16. That's right...!
If safer = progress and progress = violence, then Iraq is more safe because there is more violence!

And to think I once got a "D" in algebra!

10. Would someone in the stenographer pool
PLEASE ask Chimpy about this??? This is a subject that needs some airing. Over and over the chimpministration has promised that things are gonna get better, oh, just any second now in Iraq. Lots and lots of other countries are just champin' at the bit, ready to throw in with the "coalition" and help establish democracy in Iraq.

The Russians say, "Nyet." The Spanish suddenly have to wash their hair. The Dutch will be right back; they think they left the stove on. Golly, but cross-town traffic is just a bear -- the Italians will be a little late to the party. The U.S. has picked a fight with a billion Muslims and nobody's got our back. However, since a direct attack on the Crawford Pig Farm is unlikely, Lil George couldn't care less about the growing pile of bodies stacking up.

11. Russia sounds more like old U.S. and U.S. sounds more like Soviet Union
everyday in this new world order.

Vlad keeps throwing more wrenches into the works. And he's not going to let the Texans take over Russia's oil industry either. Who does he think he is - a democratically-elected President or something?

15. Get a second source
before quoting anything from Debka. Most of the site is disinformation. I quoted something I read at Debka back in February which turned out to be utterly false. Embarrassing!

14. "We opposed the war.... it would be inconsistent and stupid for us.."
"The latest resolution is a step in the right direction, but it's not sufficient for us to even consider sending troops," Putin said. "We opposed the war, and it would be inconsistent and stupid for us to declare now that we are ready to send our troops there in the current situation."
