Clear Channel Profit Rises, Ad Revenue Up

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Clear Channel Communications Inc. (CCU.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , the No. 1 U.S. radio station owner, on Tuesday posted higher third-quarter profit, helped by the sale of some holdings and increased advertising revenue.

San Antonio, Texas-based Clear Channel reported net income of $636 million, or $1.03 per share, compared with a year-ago profit of $212.5 million or 34 cents a share.

4. Remember the Dixie Chicks Maneuver

Clear Channel's stations pulled Chicks songs from their playlists at the same time Clear Channel was promoting the Chicks' concerts.

They gave their Pinhead Listeners a rallying point for Murka and used the controversy to sell more tickets.

One of their tentacles oughta be lopped off for shit like this!

5. CC is my favorite example of pub hypocrisy

they make TENS OF MILLIONS advertising offshore gambling... and then you get Bush and Leach et al up there whining about how sinful it all is... (while dumping god knows how much into RNC coffers)

you'll note, in that last incarnation of the Goodlatte bill (now Bacchus) it's no longer illegal to advertise illegal gambling (it was in the original Goodlatte). Had to get that out of there...

6. Price gouging? They own more than 40% of America's radio stations, I think
