Poll: More voters say definitely vote against Bush
ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than four in 10 voters nationwide say they definitely plan to vote against President Bush next year _ more than plan to vote for him, a poll reported Tuesday.

The poll, from Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion, found that 44 percent of voters surveyed said they planned to definitely vote against the Republican president while 38 percent said they would vote for his re-election.

An April poll from the Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based pollsters had found that 40 percent of voters nationwide planned to vote for Bush while 30 percent said they would vote against him.

The latest poll also found a drop in Bush's approval rating, which has been documented by other recent nationwide polls. The Marist poll had the president's approval rating at 53 percent, down from 70 percent in its April poll.

2. Let's hope this keeps up
However, I am very worried that once Bush starts spending his "primary money" that people’s view will change. That's why we all must promise to send the winning candidate some money ($10-200) the day after she or he has won the nomination (even if we wanted someone else).

We all know that it is going to take a lot of time and money to get these "people" out of office, but we also know that we must do it.

3. Mixed bag results for Dems in general ; best for Gephardt supporters
Among Democratic voters, here was no clear choice about who should be the party's candidate. Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean led the way with 16 percent of Democratic voters backing him followed by Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut at 12 percent and Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri at 10 percent. The other Democratic contenders were all in single digits. One in three Democratic voters said they were undecided on who should be the party's nominee.

In theoretical matchups against the Democrats, Bush led them all. Closest to the president - 48 percent to 43 percent - was Gephardt.

The downhill trend continues. Wish DU had a stats forum.

9. Whoa! Clark Polls Worst Against Bush
And that's outside the margin of error!

That's astonishing. I thought they'd all stay bunched in an MOE blob. Clark is the first to break out.

10. Not that bad
A lot of people are sold on one candidate, and when asked who they would support between Bush and another, they don't answer, or in the case of someone they really oppose, they might say Bush instead. But the poll indicates that a candidate doesn't have far to go to pick up a majority of votes. If 40% of voters will oppose Bush no matter what, then a candidate only has to pick up another 10% from the undecideds of moderates.

8. Many people say they support the Pres. because they support the troops
They feel it's patriotic to say. Doesn't mean they will vote for the Pres.

7. Four more to vote against Bush
My brother and his wife, registered republicans are sick of Bush (war + medicare) will change to vote in the primary; an 85 year old neighbor and her son both said "Bush does not know whats going on, and its a mistake that he got in there. We are voting for a Democrat this next time"

13. good news, bad news
The good news is obvious.

The bad news is I believe the petro-fascists will use whatever means necessary to hold power. If Bush cannot win with even a semblance of legitmacy, they'll simply turn to ever more extreme means. And at the end, they'll still say "the system works."

We're about to enter a bloody and traumatic year. Hold on to something; here we go.
