GOP Lobbyist Barbour Wins Governor's Race |
|
Washington lobbyist Haley Barbour unseated Mississippi Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove as the GOP swept both governors' races at stake Tuesday and consolidated party gains in the South. Rep. Ernie Fletcher decisively won in Kentucky, ousting Democrats from power after 32 years. http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/ELECTION_RDP?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=POLITICS&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

solid Democratic South is now losing it's last hold, it's governors. This doesn't bode well for the presidential election. Dean is right, unless we listen we're doomed to have Shrub in 2004 and Jeb in 2008.:hi:

4. Democracy isn't falling apart; it's been purchased. |

The buyers are merely picking up their goods.

5. With all these republicans down south |
|
They should have plenty of good folks to drawn from to send to Iraq on one way tickets.
Sure ,it's been a slow consolidation/ shift to the right in the south started long ago by the Dixiecrats & other segregationists. That particular hell hole is loaded with anti-tax, antihuman being reptiles. Who the fuck needs them.

The Democrats need them. Without them the Democrats won't hold national office again, is that OK with you? Now we're losing governors. You must be thrilled that we'll have Shrub again and Jeb after. Dean is right, we need them.

10. The mere fact that Haley Barbour was able to win |
|
On a campaign of waving the confederate flag and shmoozing racist organizations like the Conservative Citizens Council should tell you all you need to know about the mindset of these people.
Appealing to racism is still a winning issue in the south, and as long as the Republicans do this, they'll always have an ace in the hole in elections in southern states. I don't know how a democrat is supposed to beat this by reasoning with them. You can't reason with unreasonable people.
Doubt me if you like, but I lived in the south for 12 years, and leaving it was one of the happiest days of my life. Because, beneath the veneer of 'aw shucks southern charm, these people are racist, reactionary, and brainwashed by fundamentalist religion. They work for the lowest wages and have the worst education in the country, but it doesn't bother them in the least.
The south has sent some of the most vile human beings in recent memory to Washington DC. North Carolina proudly sent Jesse Helms to the Senate until he decided to retire. Strom Thurmond had only to not drool on himself in public to be elected Senator in South Carolina. Mississippi's favorite son is Trent Lott, who proudly voted for 'ol Strom's segregationist presidential platform. And just today, they voted Haley Barbour to be their governor.
The south is a lost cause. Let them wallow in the filth they've created for themselves.

Well, amongst others, a winning presidential campaign needs them.
Maybe it would be better to ask, why would THEY need a party whose members and leaders so often makes a practice of asking who needs them.

Depressing. This guy used to be on TV all the time and made me sick, then he left, now he's back as a governor...I pity those people...

8. It may be good news - how are the state finances in Miss and Kentucky? |
|
If they are bad and remain bad with big deficits with cuts in services then perhaps the populations will be like the idiots in CA who put it all on their governor. But this time it will be well deserved.
