BAGHDAD: Two more US soldiers, a British marine and three Iraqi civilians were killed in fresh violence in Iraq while US ally Spain announced on Tuesday that it was pulling out some of its diplomats and experts from the war-torn country.
A US soldier was killed and another wounded when an improvised explosive device blew up in Baghdad on Tuesday, a military spokeswoman said. A similar attack on Monday in Tikrit killed one US soldier and injured another, the US-led coalition said on Tuesday.
The deaths pushed the US death toll to 141 since May 1, when Washington declared major hostilities had ended. A British marine has been killed by hostile fire in Iraq, the British Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.
Cpl. Ian Plank of the Royal Marines was killed during a coalition operation on Friday, the ministry said. Its announcement gave no details of the operation. In Kirkuk, a judge was shot dead late on Monday by US forces who intended to ambush anti-coalition forces, according to the judge’s cousin, who was driving the car and suffered bullet wounds.
