Laura (Bush) condoned twins' brewhaha (New book reveals)
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 01:19 PM by rmpalmer
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/134006p-119375c.html

She hit her husband with an ultimatum that made him quit getting drunk, but Laura Bush was hands off when it came to her daughters and the bottle, a new book reveals.

The First Lady refused to discipline twins Jenna and Barbara when they were busted for underage drinking at a Texas watering hole, says the book, "The Perfect Wife: The Life and Choices of Laura Bush."

"They just want to do like every other teenager does," Laura Bush said of her daughters.

Ann Gerhart, author of the unauthorized biography, writes, "Laura was unable or unwilling to rein in her rebellious daughters ...

"Even when Laura was confronted with solid evidence that her girls were deliberately and dangerously evasive with their agents, she refused to correct them."

Will the author of this book and the bookstores who dare to carry it suffer the next Repug jihad?

2. Excuse me, Laura, you simple-minded blithering idiot
"They just want to do like every other teenager does," Laura Bush said of her daughters.

I never wanted to drink when I was a teen-ager, and I never would have considered breaking the law or gone so far as to break the law even if I had wanted to drink. Laura, you're confusing those repressed Republican teen-agers with the liberal and progressive teen-agers who grew up in homes where controversial life decisions were discussed long before problems such as those in your dysfunctional family would ever arise.

Gads. An idiot married to an idiot begets idiots.

3. at the risk of being
flamed profusely,

I studied genetics when I was raising dogs and found that you never get an offspring that is of better quality than one or the other of its parents - unless there is a tremendously strong lineage, the weaker genetic material has a tendency to show up quite rapidly.

10. That can't be the whole story...
... or all life on earth would be rapidly devolving.

12. Isn't it???
IMO, the evidence gathered over the past three years points invariably to the conclusion that we human saps are on a downward spiral. Next thing you know, we'll be dragging our knuckles and picking mites out of each others' scalps again.

No offense meant to our brethren (and sisteren) primate species.

Besides, the second law of thermodynamics states that this is inevitably so.

20. Not just human life, all life
And not just toward more barbaric behavior, but toward system failure and extinction.

I would certainly agree that our culture is devolving, but not all of the planet's DNA.

23. No flame but what about hybrid vigor?
Just take resistance to disease as one example. If each parent has resistance to a different disease, an offspring may, depending on heritability of the trait, be resistant to both diseases. If we accept that being resistant to two diseases is better than being resistant to only one, by definition the offspring is "better" than either parent. This extra resistance might mean that some other trait is also "better" in the offspring than either parent, hence we have hybrid vigor. What is true is that in the next generation the "useful traits" will again segregate so that some of the F2 offspring will be lacking the hybrid vigor of the F1 generation.

4. Well, Pickles prolly thinks that running a stop sign and.........
...killing your boyfriend in the process is something that all teens go through as well.

But on a positive note, I guess I can look forward to telling my 15 year old that it's OK to underage drink, "'cause the First Lady says that it's so".

.....is employed by The Washington Post and has been assigned to Pickles from day one. Often her writing is kind to Pickles, so don't expect too much of a tell-all.

7. I read that Georgie's pal, Evans, got him sober
Don Evans turned * onto religion as a substitute for alcoholism. I never read that Laura issued an ultimatum. Not that it couldn't have happened.

The whole family gives me the creeps.

8. This is ridiculous
Sorry, gang, but Barb and Jenna were over 18 when they were busted. Each time.

So Ann Gerhart wants Pickles to "discipline" the girls?

Underage drinking laws are status offenses. They exist only because of the particular problems we have with drinking in this country -- and because of our stilted moral stance in regards to young people, booze, sex, and anything else we proclaim as "vice".

The real problem I have is that J & B got off much easier than most Texas underage drinkers would have.

14. I refuse to attack the bush twins for doing the same stupid s#&$ that I
did at the same age. They're college students who like to get drunk. Is this some national scandal? Is this something new?

I'm also not going to pick on Laura. Her husband gives me plenty of fodder, I can leave her alone.

17. sorry, I disagree
There might have been an argument for leaving Pickles alone before she allowed herself to be part of the politicization, making speeches defending hubby's Iraq position and campaigning solo.

The woman knows that they occupy the White House only through fraud, deceit, cronyism, racialism, thuggery, the quashing of lawful votes, the twisting of the formerly immutable rule of law, and the tainting of the judiciary for personal and partisan gain. She knows all this and yet allows herself to enjoy the fruits of taxpayer largesse and indulgence.

She is an accessory to a crime. An anti-American crime. She's either with the people or with the terrorist in the oval office.

25. who is Laura Bush?
Sounds vaguely familiar. I cannot really put my finger on it--surely she has not a thing that would cause us all to remember her name. Oh, maybe it is this-- it was Laura Bush who married a young and stupid Bush (family evil empire) Oh that's her claim to fame! She married an alcoholic at the age of thirty and finally got to suck off someone else and grow fat doing it. She finally was ensconced and had tonot work a day for the rest of her life. She was Stepforded and glad to be so. OK I get it now.
