Judge Lets Parents Challenge Guardianship of Terri Schiavo
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - A state circuit judge Wednesday refused to block an effort by the parents of a brain-damage woman to try to get her husband removed as her legal guardian.

Also Wednesday, an attorney for Gov. Jeb Bush asked another judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Michael Schiavo challenging the constitutionality of the law that allowed the governor to order reinsertion of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube two weeks ago.

That action argues that the governor was never served with the suit, which would make it invalid. It also argued that it should have been filed in Leon County - where Bush is based - instead of Pinellas County.
>snip<

Attorneys for Bush were given until Thursday to file their own arguments supporting the law, but instead filed the motion to dismiss Wednesday. Attorney Kenneth L. Connor, representing Bush, said the governor is not shying away from judicial review of the statute, but that proper procedure must be followed first.

1. Didn't the US Supreme Court refuse to hear suit #1?
re: removing the husband as guardian...

Isn't that suit's appeals being exhausted why the hospital went ahead and removed the feeding tube in the first place?

So after the fact the governor hits the reset button...

3. Since Judge Greer has denied a change of guardian 3 times
in the past, I wonder what made him change his mind this go-round?

The part of this I thought was really slick was jeb's response.

Supposed to have filed their arguments supporting what they had done by tomorrow, but instead filed to dismiss the case.

2. I would not have treated my sick dog like they have this poor women
All of them. State courts, husband parents. It is a sin.

7. I would have put my dog to sleep(euthanize) instead of suffering
You have a good point, I myself would have put my dog to sleep, and not let emotion guide me, because watching her suffer would be more cruel.

As for what they are doing, being a sin, you'd have to show me that in the Bible. I'm pretty fed up with people using the word "sin" to
apply to any and everything.

4. Good.
I hope her parents get custody and that she gets the therapy she has been denied for over a decade. It isn't right to starve a person to death.

5. I understand the husband wanting to get on with his life...so...he
should transfer the funds for her care to her parents..release himself of her care and responsibility..and each side gets what they want. In a minute..he gets the girlfriend and a new life.

6. Can you imagine a loving husband
just leaving the shell of his wife to be tortured for another 10, 20 or 30 years of being bedridden and having at most only the dimmest understanding of what's going on around her? If he didn't care about her he could have done that years ago.

8. I agree with you
A young woman I knew was dying of cancer. One day her mother visited her in the hospital. The young woman told her mother, "I can't die until you let go." The mother went in another room and thought for a long time. Finally, she came back and said, "You can go now." And the young woman died.

I think the parents are holding onto the body of their daughter because of their own needs. They aren't able to see what is best for their child. The daughter is brain dead and they are just torturing her body because they can't let go.

10. She has not been denied therapy. Look at the testimony.
I am so tired of what is left of this decent woman's body being used as a socio-political and media pawn!

This is hideous!

She had therapy, plenty of it, during the first years after her heart failed and her brain was depleted of oxygen. CAT scans showed that her cerebral cortex was almost gone, and she has only gone downhill since then--that was what, twelve years ago?

Good Lord, get a grip you guys. This is not the basic Down's syndrome kid on the street or the CP child in the chair. She's GONE.

Her cerebral cortex is gone; her husband finally came to grips with this after more than several years of trying everything.

Let her finish dying in peace, please.

To use what is left of her body for social/political reasons is mysogynist and a disgrace. Please give her death the dignity it deserves.

What's next--Weekend at Bernie's with this woman? Allow her some dignity and let her die in peace!
