National Public Radio Receives $200 Million Donation
VOA News

The Washington Post reports that the widow of the founder of McDonald's restaurants has donated $200 million to National Public Radio.

It is the largest gift the non-profit radio station, which is heard across the United States, has ever received.

NPR says it plans to hold a press conference later Thursday. ---

Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, died last month of brain cancer at her home in San Diego, California. She was 75 years old. ---

2. We own the air waves
Murdoch, Disney,Warner and others should be paying rent to the public for use of these air waves making PUBLIC radio and tv fully funded by the renters.

...um...I mean Pledge Drive of course.

Sweet. Mc'D's may not be perfect morally, but this is a very good thing for Joan to be doing. I applaud her whole heartedly.

And for the record I still think my paultry $20 doantion is just as important. :)

5. Good!
Their news operation is decent, but perhaps now they can build it into a world-class operation a la BBC. And halt the rightward drift while they're at it.

8. In this case, the money didn't come from McDonalds, it came from a person
The widow of the founder of McDonalds doesn't own the company.

14. My thoughts exactly!
Hey, I like NPR and I love my local stations. I just have to email them occasionally when Cokie Roberts goes over the top with her GOP talking points.
