U.S. Takes Responsibility for Woes of Middle East
Bush just gave a speech at the National Endowment for Democracy where he acknowledged and took responsibility for the U.S.'s exploitation of the Middle East.

WE HAVE TO HOLD HIM TO THESE COMMENTS MOVING FORWARD:

He said the United States and other nations shared blame for the lack of democratic freedoms in the Middle East.

"Sixty years of Western nations excusing and accommodating the lack of freedom in the Middle East did nothing to make us safe because in the long run stability cannot be purchased at the expense of liberty," Bush said.

IF HE MEANS THIS, THEN THIS IS AMMO FOR ANY TIME OUR COUNTRY ATTEMPTS TO WORK WITH CORRUPT REGIMES FOR "LONG RUN STABILITY"!!!

GOT OLE BUSH BY THE SHORT AND CURLIES NOW!!!

2. Of course not...
...But while the american people refuse to listen to these cries, we must continue to raise the volume. Eventually they will listen. Hopefully they will listen before he supports another dictator only to start a war with that same dictator 20 years later.

3. If George Orwell had known about the NED, it would be mentioned in "1984"

I remember that I read about connections between the attempted coup in Venezuala last year and the NED.
From what I know the name of this organization is quite a contrast to what the NED actually does: Orwellian, indeed:

http://www.mediatransparency.org/recipients/ned.htm

"The endowment also gave money to the US Republican and Democratic political parties for work in Venezuela (!) The International Republican Institute, apparently an arm of the US Republican party that has an office in Venezuela, recieved a grant of $339,998 for "political party building." On the day of the coup, this group that received money from the US government to promote democracy, hailed the takeover. The former president of the Institute has close ties to the Bush administration, and is now the assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor! The Institute itself also embraced the coup."
