US military expects surge in Iraqi rebel attacks
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060112/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_060112175227

BAGHDAD (AFP) - US forces in Iraq expect a surge in insurgent attacks as political factions prepare to negotiate the first full-term government since the fall of Saddam Hussein, a US general warned.

The comments came as the country enjoyed a relative period of calm during the Eid Al-Adha holiday following one of its deadliest bursts of violence last week since the US-led invasion in March 2003.

"As the newly-elected government of Iraq comes together, those committed to seeing democracy fail will see this time of transition as an opportunity to attack the innocent people of Iraq and attempt to discredit and derail the progress of the Iraqi people," said Brigadier-General Don Alston.

The Iraqi electoral commission is expected to release the final results of last month's general election in the coming days, paving the way for Shiites, Kurds and Sunni Arabs to start formal talks on forming a unified government.

1. My son-in-law just returned from Iraq a couple days ago
he said that during the year he was in Baghdad nothing changed for the better. They would have lulls in the fighting and then it would get worse again. Nothings changed...

sting out of the bloodshed and american lives that will be lost in the coming days and months. the media is now only good for numbing and dumbing. are we really even at war?

5. I've said before that if increased violence is predicted and nothing...
...is done to either prevent it or to mitigate it, the predictors are culpable.

If Bush were to say that he predicts increased terrorist attacks in the US after the next supreme court confirmation, and terrorist attacks increased after the confirmation with no preventative actions on the part of Bush, I think folks would scream. Predictions of increased violence, made time and time again by this administration with no effort to preclude the violence from occurring, do not represent leadership; they represents opinion manipulation.

It's getting as regular as the tides, these surges and relative periods of calm.

This is becoming one of the greatest farces in modern history.

9. It's all because we're winning
The bad guys are getting more desperate all the time, that's why they attack.

Sometimes, the bad guys get so desperate that they attack so much that the foreign liberators are forced to evacuate frantically by helicopter from the roof of their embassy.
