Democrat Outlines Strategy for Iraq, Meets with Family of Fallen Soldier
(snip)

Clark visited the family of the third soldier from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School to die in Iraq before presenting his Iraq proposal to a predominantly black crowd of 300 at South Carolina State University.

The former four-star general said he knew the community was hurting and what it means to sacrifice a life for our country.

"We are all grateful for his service and we should honor it today," Clark said of 22-year-old Army Spc. Darius Jennings, who was killed Sunday when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down in the deadliest single strike against U.S. forces since the war began.

"It wasn't a political thing. It was personal," Jennings' mother Harriet Johnson said of Clark's visit to her home.

Johnson has been critical of the war in Iraq since her son's death, and has called on President Bush to visit her family, saying it's "something he should do for each and every family that had a fallen soldier."

1. So sad and so needed by our Candidates to
be out there talking and comforting the "fallen Soldiers".

I saw a sign on a "Christian school" today that said "Pray for our Troops" and I thought and raged to myself.."we wouldn't have to be praying if ol bushco hadn't of sent them to die.

7. "Pray for Our Troops" - a sign of surrender before imperial authority
The message "Pray for Our Troops" may support many readings, but among the likely messages is "Let's remove the question of war from the political realm and take refuge in our religion, where everything is made better in the end by faith."

Thus sealing the troops' fate to remain stuck and under attack in Iraq.

2. i think that's a little bit too much to expect from bush*, general...
he's in the middle of a campaign, and there's the war, and all... and he needs to do his photo-op elementary school visits. of course, it's interesting that bush isn't visiting ANYONE who has had a soldier in the family die in Iraq.

3. Clark could win the South by visiting the families of the dead GIs....
And since Bush doesn't feel it is appropriate, perhaps it's not such a bad idea..

4. So much more than what Bush is doing
Good for Clark! Now the families have to depend on the Democratic Presidential candidates in order to get some recognition and sympathy for their loss, for Chrissakes. This is unacceptable. Bush is a coward and a disgusting excuse for a human being.

5. "$1,000-a-plate funeral"?
One of Nostamj's cartoons, by Danziger --

Cheney: "Karl, we have to show that we're sensitive to the death of all these G.I.'s..."

Rove: "How about a $1,000-a-Plate Funeral?"
