Iraq ambush kills US soldier (Unfortunately, this is new)

An ambush near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul has left one American soldier dead and six wounded and in a separate incident a US helicopter has crashed in the town of Tikrit.

The US Army said guerrillas with guns and rocket-propelled grenades had ambushed a US convoy in Mosul.

The attack brought to at least 140 the number of American soldiers killed in action in Iraq since President Bush declared major combat over on May 1.

At the same time news was released that a US helicopter had crashed near the northern Iraqi town of Tikrit.

The US Army said the cause of the crash and the number of casualties were not immediately known.
