Connecticut Governor John Rowland Admits to Lying About Ken Lay Meetings
-snip-

Gov. John G. Rowland retreated Thursday from his long-held denial that he spoke with former Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay - acknowledging for the first time that Lay may have participated in "numerous" phone conference calls with him and his staff.

"Ken Lay may have been involved in numerous conference calls that have taken place either with officials in my office or with me," Rowland said in answer to questions at a press conference in Hartford about new development plans at the Colt factory site.

That statement was made in response to newly surfaced internal Enron memos that said Rowland talked to Lay and was much different from the governor's flat statement in February 2002 that he never had spoken to top Enron executives such as Lay.

When Rowland issued his blanket denial - which his staff has repeated in the 20 months since - he was facing his 2002 re-election campaign and wanted to dissociate himself from the state trash authority's loss of $220 million in an energy-sales transaction with Enron. That deal, branded an illegal loan by the state attorney general, is being investigated by state and federal grand juries.

Maybe. Maybe. The BFEE shitheads are twirling like tops this week, with danger for them coming from a different direction every hour. This just gets them going even faster.

13. Thanks for the link Don_G ......
Accordingly, it appears that "Kenny Boy" days may be coming to a count down.

If justice can get those Energy documents from Cheney a lot of mysteries could be solved.

3. I don't want to register to read the article. How widely circulated is
this source? Are people going to be made aware or it is just being held under the radar?

4. Once again,...
where is the (R) designation after Rowlands name. As a matter of fact the article never even mentions that he is a Republican. Our "librul" media, at it again.

10. Maybe they think it is safe to assume
he is a republican. There are so damn many of them! And of course the Enron connection should make it obvious :)

11. Did anyone notice during the just passed election that the Repukes
DIDN'T admit what their party affiliation was during their commercials, and even the "Paid for by____" disclaimers had NO reference to the party? How many people voted by name recognition rather than party?

12. I noticed the same thing ...
as I was unsure if this thug was a Repuke. The only mention is that Lay made a donation to the Republican Governors something or other after Rowland spoke to him. Rowland had just become the Chaiman of this group.

Cheers

5. I wonder if this scumbag can be impeached for this
He distanced himself from Enron to get elected, now it turns out he flat out lied about it. How could the people of Connecticut even trust him when he says he's going out to lunch?

8. Sweet.

Four days after the call to Rowland, Enron's corporate headquarters in Houston made a $60,000 contribution to the Republican Governors Association, of which Rowland had just become chairman.

15. there was another Republican that said he didn't know Ken Lay
then they found pictures of him with Lay at a baseball game, and they found out that he travelled to South America to lobby for Enron.

Not much was made of it...
