'Nerve gas' letter sent to UK embassy (AND U.S. EMBASSY in Belgium)
http://www.itv.com/news/684046.html

A nerve gas ingredient has been found in letters addressed to the prime minister's office in Belgium, and to British, US and Saudi Arabian embassies there.

At least ten letters containing chemicals were posted to addresses including various Belgian ministries, including Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt's office.

Also targeted by the letters were the Brussels court house, an airport in the coastal town of Ostend, and the port authority in Antwerp, Belgium's second city.

Police intercepted some of the letters but those sent to the British and Saudi Arabian embassies slipped through. Two postal workers were briefly hospitalised after being exposed to the chemicals.

1. It's probably professional alarmists manufacturing a diversion
to keep our eyes off the prize.

2. If that were true, it would all be on these shores. Most Americans
have no interest in what happens overseas unless it has something to do with sex or Bush's "evildoer of the week."

3. Unless large masses of citizens overseas are also
exhibiting impatience or protesting their governments involvement (England) with us.

4. An explanation is offered in the story
<snip> The scare comes as 23 suspected collaborators of al-Qaeda stand trial in Belgium on charges of fraud, possession of firearms, recruiting for a foreign armed force and other crimes. ...

Belgium and other Western European countries have been on heightened alert for possible attacks following last month's suicide bombings in Saudi Arabia and Morocco, also blamed on al-Qaeda or people affiliated with it. </snip>

This kind of thing has happened before when Islamic terror suspects have been nabbed by police or set to stand trial in Western Europe. Actually worse has happened, bombs have exploded.

Note that despite what this story says, France's terror alert was lowered recently, back to pre-9/11 levels. We've been under a terror alert system in France since 1995.
