Report: Katherine Harris Considers Senate Run
ORLANDO -- Published reports say Rep. Katherine Harris is "seriously considering" running for the U.S. Senate.

Harris became a Republican darling during the 2000 presidential election problems in Florida. She was Secretary of State at the time, but rode the wave to a seat in Congress.

Harris is still in her first term. But she tells the Orlando Sentinel she and her husband will "seriously consider" a run for the Senate.

Some observers say a decision to enter the race would make Harris the automatic Republican front-runner.

This should re-focus the nation on Florida.

Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 08:27 PM by fishnfla
these are the other GOP "hopefuls"

Johnny Byrd=fucking asshole, think of the terri sciavo case.he makes Tom Feeney look like FDR
Bill McCollum=fucking asshole who led the impeachment
Dan Webster=fucking asshole who told them gay high school kids they would rot in hell

The dems? they have 4 possibilities, the only one I'm familiar with is the Mayor of Miami, Alex whats-his-name. Pretty sad on me huh? Also that guy Peter Deutsch(?) Ambassador dude.

She'll be the front runner regardless. Lock, bought and sold

5. I hate that woman...
...if she becomes a Senator, just 4 years after assisting jackass fraud steal the election, my head will explode and take everyone in a 20 kilometer radius with me in a blinding flash of red hot seething rage and disbelief. If Florida puts her in the Senate, we deserve to have Alabama and Nevada both become coastal states...

that you are in the midst of as many repugs as possible without inflicting damage to Democrats.

Some house members are already in the contest. And she has not served two years and want to jump to the senate.

16. She probably has enough on the Bushes to do that, but
they'll probably have her killed, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Jeb will run in 2008 but the democrat in office will beat him ... unless Diebold gets involved country-wide :eyes: .

23. Well, hopefully
Well, hopefully if she switches to the Senate race (you notice none of this came up until Graham decided not to run), she will lose bigtime and then she won't be up there at all. If she runs for the Senate seat, she will not be running for the House.

25. Since she was elected in 2002 I expected her to go on to Senate.
And why not ? Al Gore and company gave her a billion dollar buildup, taking an unknown minor state hack and turning her into Katherine the Giant Killer. Why shouldn't she make the most of it ?

More, they made her sympathetic by the unending personal attacks on her looks. Numerous posts in this thread display the same old snideness that pushed her administrative incompetence off the page.

An earlier poster said this would be a good thing by focusing attention on Florida and making democrats anygry. uhhh, wasn't that the 2002 strategy over Jeb Bush ? That worked REAL well didn't it.

Harris is an illustration of the principle of blowback. Neeeding an excuse and scapegoat for his failure in 2000, Gore and company made her into a genuine political power. She will be very difficult to stop if she chooses to run.

29. What the Harris phenom says about Dems
Harris' rise is in direct proportion to the lack of conviction and principle perceived by voters in the Democratic Party. Where there is a vacuum of substance, the people will follow demigogues and shamans and homecoming queens.

We can gnash our teeth about the Dragon Lady all we like. It won't change anything.

Democrats need to develop a meaningful narrative. They need to offer solutions. They need to fight, not accomodate. They need to stop being seen as the GOP's irksome kid brothers.

Failing that, in another ten years, you'll be seeing President Harris.
