looks like NPR can now afford to tilt back leftwards, towards telling it like it is, and not pussyfooting around the GOP to protect their funding.
they'll never go as left as pacifica, but still; a victory for the forces of good.

Only the interest/return generated by the bequest will be used in the future (average about 10 Million per year). There is "a little" government oversight on funding, which may mean less in the future if the Bushtards are in power. Rush makes this much in a few years.

Are you suggesting that donating 200 million dollars to NPR is really an underhanded Republican plot to control the airwaves even more?

Is great for the future of NPR...
I am, however, disappointed that it is likely that no improvement will be made on my local "off at sundown WPR station."
Fund raising will pretty much not change and the Repugs will try to cut the budget more because of Kroc's largess.
We need 200 Million every few years because of the media control! A bonanza, nonetheless and sorry if I sound like am looking a gift horse in the mouth.

12. even if they only spend the 10 million in interest/returns per year, that |
|
represents a significant portion of their yearly operating revenue, close to 6%.

6. I don't know how to feel about this |
|
Of course it's wonderful for NPR and her money had to go somewhere and I'm glad it's to them...BUT... I just have a problem knowing that these millions were made marketing crap food to kids and adults. "Food" made by people not making a living wage. Irreparable harm has been done to the environment and human health thanks to McDonald's. It all just seems a little slimy and wierd to me.

Thank you Joan Kroc. Bless your soul. It's one of the best things you could have done with your money.
Now I hope (as others in this thread have) that NPR feels less "obliged" to the fascist party, and their programming and commentary change accordingly.
