I received an interesting article written in December 1994 by Lousiana gubernatorial candidate Bobby Jindal (R) for the New Oxford Review, an "orthodox Catholic magazine." The piece is titled "Physical Dimensions of Spiritual Warfare" and is about one of Jindal's friends from Brown University getting possessed by the devil. In the article, Jindal suggests that he too came under attack by the devil.

As this Christian Science Monitor profile makes clear, Jindal does not hide the importance of his faith -- including his own conversion from Hinduism to Catholicism -- but I've never before seen anything like this come up in a campaign. Unfortunately, the article is not available online.

Uh.... how about obvious mental issues. I know plenty of devout Catholics who, when confronted with someone who thought they were attacked by the Devil, would call a psychiatrist before calling a priest.

It's called hiring an attack dog. Get a prominent Democrat with a name, who has been elected multiple times (maybe Foster Campbell, maybe Cleo Fields, maybe William Jefferson) call a press conference and say Louisiana can't afford to be run by someone from the Religious Right.

Blanco could claim she had NOTHING to do with it.

This was Bush's strategy all through the 00 election. This was what Nixon TRIED to do with Agnew, but it backfired becuase when Nixon spoke he'd sound too much like Agnew.
