U.S. Pounds Saddam's Hometown; 2 GIs Die
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20031108_568.html

BAGHDAD, Iraq Nov. 8 — Insurgents killed two U.S. paratroopers and wounded another west of Baghdad on Saturday as the U.S. military unleashed a show of force in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, rocketing buildings to rubble and dropping 500-pound bombs near the site where a Black Hawk helicopter crashed.
<snip>

(Basically a re-hash of other events already discussed but includes news of US fatalities)

12. Exactly my impression, too.
Sounds just like an Israeli reprisal. Man we are going to be so popular now. You don't think Bush wants to make the maximum possible number of terrorists so he and his Repuklikan progeny will have a campain issue for the next 500 years, do you? That would be too cycnical.

4. Special Task Force
There is now said to be a special task force designed to root out not only Saddam, but bin Laden as well. Bush is apparantly discouraged that both people have either not been captured or not been confirmed dead. This task force has been given "special authorization" or something like that. Well, let's see what happens with this one.

8. 007's? Bwahahahaha!
In which Bond movie did he drop a 500 lb bomb on a civilian neighborhood?

"Kill and Let Die?"
"The Man with the Golden Dossier?"

Of course, the Bond movie title most appropriate for the crowd in the White House would be "Octopussy", given their backgrounds during the 80's.

9. Should be more specific
Syrians and Iranians. The military has been telling the media about this but it's falling on deaf ears at the WH.

to stop calling the "insurgents" "resistance fighters." This is new. Found it yesterday in the Sydney Morning Herald here http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/06/1068013331454.html. Interesting it takes an Australian publication to let us know....

All the people screaming where's Saddam..where's Bin Laden? It's apparant that certain Senators and Congrespersons have forced him to step up the war.

11. They gave him the rope with which to hang himself...
if National Geographic could find an Afghani girl after almost 15-20 years...how come Bush can't find OBL with all the might and power of the CIA and Armed Forces behind him?

15. And a violation of the Geneva Convention...
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 01:10 PM by htuttle
...if anyone here in this country cares about that anymore.

BTW, the Geneva Convention was originally drawn up to define what is considered CRIMINAL in a war theatre.

14. Following Lott's advice: "just mow the whole place down, see what happens"
Sign the "Send Lott" petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/SendLott/petition.html):

To: Senate of the United States of America

On 29 October 2003, Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) is reported to have suggested his final solution to the Iraq problem:

"We need to have a different mix of troops, is the key. We may need to move some troops around. Honestly, it’s a little tougher than I thought it was going to be. If we have to, we just mow the whole place down, see what happens. You’re dealing with insane suicide bombers who are killing our people, and we need to be very aggressive in taking them out." ("GOP unity is strained by attacks", by Geoff Earle, http://www.thehill.com/news/102903/gopunity.aspx)

We request that Senator Lott be sent immediately to Iraq to, in his own words, "mow the place down". Mr. Lott would bring the appropriate aggressiveness needed to stop "insane suicide bombers who are killing our people." It is clear that only Senator Lott uderstands the situation in Iraq, so it would be in America's best interest that the Senator go to Iraq immediately and clean it up.

We note that Senator Lott declined military service when he had the opportunity ("Chickenhawk Database", http://www.nhgazette.com/cgi-bin/NHGstore.cgi?user_action=list&category=%20NEWS%3B%20Chickenhawks), but with a few weeks of modern Army training, he should be prepared to patrol the streets of Fallujah and start mowing with gusto.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
