Democrats Use Radio Speech to Rap Bush's Military Housing, Veterans' Health Care Cuts

FORT WORTH, Texas Nov. 8 — With hostilities in Iraq continuing as Veterans Day approaches, government leaders must remember their promises to help those who have fought and are fighting for this country, Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Texas, said Saturday.

Edwards, delivering the Democrats' weekly radio address, said trillion-dollar tax cuts benefiting the wealthy are hindering government support for military families and veterans. He criticized House Republicans' March vote to cut veterans' health care services by $28 billion over 10 years.

"What message does it send to our veterans when the (Bush) administration says American taxpayers can afford to build new hospitals in Iraq, but we cannot afford to keep open veterans hospitals here at home?" Edwards said.

1. My best friend's father
He was a WWII vet. He developed numerous health problems and eventually wound up in a VA nursing home. To put a long story short, he fell and hit his head. No one checked on him for hours and he died.
Everyone was devastated.
Go Chet!

3. Military Housing...let me tell you
My son, a father of 4 kids, is in the military. The military does not supply housing for large families or families...period. For my son to have small house for his growing family, WE bought a house for him. The guy has no money and doesn't even make enough to support his family.

I'm glad the democrats are making an issue out of this, but this problem is old and the democrats did nothing about it.

4. You're right, Readmylips
The Dems and Repugs share equal blame for this one.

I have a family member in the military, too. The standard of living is shit: not by accident, and not because of partisan politics. No, by design.
