Bush says he understands Americans' worries

US President George Bush said today that even though the state of the union is strong, he understands why some Americans are worried in a time of war and job cuts.

“I understand there’s an anxiety about the time of war,” Bush said, trying to keep the momentum of the previous night’s State of the Union address with an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

“That’s natural, seems like to me, even though this economy is roaring. It is strong, when you recognise we’ve overcome a lot.”

...

“Our economy is the envy of the world,” Bush said. “And yet people are changing jobs a lot and there is competition from India and China, which creates some uncertainty. My worry is that people see that uncertainty and decide to adopt isolated policies, or projectionist policies.”

7. This just in - 5,100 net jobs added to Kansas City MSA in all of 2005
The metropolitan area has a population of about 1.9 million and change.

Yeah, that economy's just roaring along.

:eyes:

The 15-county Kansas City metropolitan area added a modest 5,100 non-farm payroll jobs — largely due to the construction boom — in 2005, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The 0.5 percent employment increase for the metro area lagged the 1.5 percent jobs gain recorded nationally.

But, Stanley Suchman, regional commissioner for the statistics bureau, noted a bright side: The metro area now has had 22 consecutive months of job growth, when measured on a year-to-year basis.

The Missouri side of the metro area gained 2,900 jobs in 2005, figured on an estimated, non-seasonally adjusted basis, with numbers derived from establishment payroll reports. The Kansas side added 2,200 jobs.

EDIT

MSA = "Metropolitan Statistical Area"

10. HE is afraid

Guess what, Fuhrer Bushhhhhh? YOU are the one who is frightened. You now realize that we Dems don't have to spend our money on Repuke-controlled businesses.

We can buy our gas at Citgo rather than Exxon.

WE can cancel your propaganda machine (cable and satellite service) and live quite happily without hearing all the Nazi bile they spew.

We can refuse to purchase food that has been genetically modified by your buds at Monsanto.

We can stop buying gas-guzzling American cars and SUV's.

We can work on a local level to find producers of items close to home, taking a few more $$ from the transportation sector.

We can cancel our credit card accounts and pay cash.

We can buy only what we need. And bankrupt the businesses that use slave labor, that donate to your war machine, that support your reign of corruption and oppression and warmongering.

HE IS AFRAID! DON'T STOP, DUers! STARVE THE BEAST!!!!!!!

strong for those in the highest income sector who have money to invest in the stock market. Middle and lower income families aren't feeling the effects of the growing economy yet. It's just a new take on the trickle down theory and we all remember how well that worked, don't we?

19. this part really bothers me
>> Three-fourths of the people who watched the speech said they approve of the proposals made by Bush, according to a CBS News poll last night of 734 viewers.

Those who watched the speech were more likely to be Republican, but only a third who saw the speech thought the president will be able to achieve the goals he mentioned. <<

I hope that they do not think in Ireland that this very small highly skewed sample of people that they say approve of the proposals made by * do not believe that this IS THE CASE for ALL Americans.

* has a huge disapproval rating and I bet it is a lot bigger than the 58% that think * should be impeached!!

Don't believe the B.S. IRELAND!!!

as we know. It is not the least bit realistic but this is what is being read in Ireland and it is NOT a true representation of what the American people et al. believe(!!!).

I wish they'd stop this. Does anyone have the email address for the Irish Examiner? I would like to email them but all I could find on their website was a physical mailing address and phone number. Thanks to anyone that can help me. I'd really like to set the Irish Examiner straight on this one.
