Surge in new jobs, but most are low-paying
This kind of reminds me of a story from Bush I. Dan Quayle saw a help wanted sign in front of a Burger King, called a press conference to argue how the fact that Burger King was hiring meant the conomy was improving.

By Seattle Times staff and news services

The U.S. economy has begun to create jobs, pushing the national unemployment rate to its lowest level since last spring.

But most of the new jobs were part time or in low-paying sectors, such as education, health care and services.

The Labor Department reported yesterday that payroll employment rose by 126,000 last month, and figures for August and September, earlier reported as increasing a slight 16,000, were revised upward to show a rise of 160,000. The combined three-month gain was the largest since the recession ended in November 2001.

The jobs market has been a weak link in the recovery, with companies hesitant to hire new, full-time workers out of concern that the improvements wouldn't last.

1. One statement jumps out screaming -- how looney are America's priorities -
--"low-paying sectors, such as education, health care and services." When education and health care are low paying jobs, but we pay millions to foot ball players and fat cat CEOs -- something is definitely rotten. Jessica gets millions for saying she's not a hero while Johnson gets $500 month even though she endured being a prisoner of war, etc.

I remember once a physicist friend explaining that he thought he should not be paid as much as the ditch digger because he figured he was blessed already with the ability to do physics, something he enjoyed and loved, whereas the man or woman who does the grunt work of society should get extra because (s)he's doing stuff that has to be done, but nobody really wants to do. Sounds more reasonable than the system we presently have.

4. More jobs may not fix what ails US economy
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/business/articles/1109talton09.html Yeah, I hear they're looking for legals to work for illegal wages, wait, they did that anyway.

5. Recent Job Growth not Keeping up with Population Growth
The U.S. economy must increase the number of jobs 170,000 per month to keep up with increase in the labor pool as result of the growth in population.
