Short: 'Offer hard drugs on NHS'
Former cabinet minister Clare Short has called for hard drugs to be available free on the NHS.

The former International Development Secretary, who resigned in protest at the war in Iraq, said free drugs would give addicts the chance to "disconnect from criminality".

Interviewed for the Sunday Supplement show on ITV1 Granada, she was asked which three things she would put at the top of the new Labour manifesto.

She spoke about foreign policy and called for more equality in the employment market before moving on to the topic of drugs.

2. I don't know.... I think a lot of the far right wingers would just gasp
and fall over dead.

She has a point, though. Unfortunately, common sense is trumped by pride and stupidity every time over here.

5. ultimately, a completely liberal society would have all drugs be legal
and simply regulate other behaviors... for example, drug users would be registered to make purchases of drugs, and would have different license plates on their cars, allowing cops to pull them over for random checks. it's an impossible society for wingers to imagine... one that's actually free and assumes people are responsible.
