U.S. Warplanes Renew Bombing of Iraq Targets
i didnt see this covered yet.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&e=1&u=/nm/20031109/ts_nm/iraq_dc_130

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. warplanes bombed targets in Iraq (news - web sites) on Sunday in air strikes that resumed last week for the first time in more than six months after the shooting down of three U.S. helicopters.

The renewed air strikes came as Iraq's interim foreign minister promised that local leaders would meet a December deadline for setting out a path toward self-rule.

In the new air strikes, F-16 fighter-bombers dropped three 500-pound bombs near the flashpoint town of Falluja, in the area west of Baghdad where 16 American soldiers were killed when a U.S. Chinook helicopter was downed a week ago

what makes them think it will help win the peace now?

32. Doesn't work for Israel - won't work for America
Bombing civilians hasn't helped Israel, just made it worse, but now the bush team believes it will work in Iraq. The more civilians people we kill the more terrorists are created and the cycle continues to grow. Unfortunately the bush team is making it grow a an extremely rapid rate, it's only a matter of time until they bring it to America. The fools in the white house are destroying America with the ignorant decisions.

7. My thoughts exactly...
Maybe for this to be a "major military operation" it must produce shock and awe rather than noise, rubble and dust?

12. For it to be a "major combat operation," the news would actually have to..
.. cover it.

CNN just showed a neat-o retrospective of Russell Crowe's career though, and last hour hosted a hot debate about the merits of the censored Reagan movie.

Are they filed away somewhere so they can use them again now, like MSNBC's "Target Iraq", which had a map of Iraq in crosshairs.

20. CNN Whore TV gave a report on the first US bombings 2 days ago.
Edited on Sun Nov-09-03 07:10 PM by dArKeR
She was giving the account to the millions of viewers; bla bla bla 'US has resumed bombing to show they still have bite... 500 pound bombs...'bla bla. The first thing that popped into my mind is, 'What are we bombing?' which CNN Whore TV reporters didn't even address for days. Are we/me so different than people in the world and no one else notices these types of exclusions in Whore Media reports?

It seems to me like they're reading movie scripts and they don't even comprehend what they're reading to us.

The same feeling I get when I see Junior reading the teleprompter to us. I feel he has no concept of what he's telling us. He's just reading a story some guys authored in the White House basement.

(How much does a 500 pound bomb cost?)

31. Based on negligible HUMINT
There has been no end to the allegations from w/in Washington that one of the main factors in the failure of the occupation has been the lack of human intelligence assets in Iraq.

Almost nobody can speak the language fluently and when they can they are not being put to proper use. Thus, soldiers in Iraq have no idea who's who. Now, how can we target those bombs without having solid intelligence data on the location of Iraqi guerilla hideouts?

The short answer is that we cannot.

13. Cowardly neocons...
my contempt for these people is without end. They are destroying innocent civilians. As a woman, I deplore the loss of life and the maiming and agony. As a human being, I ask myself how in the name of everything this country has ever hoped to stand for, how we can permit this to continue.

Shameful acts, ordered by a shameless, craven, petty, self-absorbed sociopath.

14. Right on.

"Win the peace". I think not. "Instill fear", or "terrorize" is more like it. The resistance fighters have pissed off the mighty US, and the US is going to respond. Expect more bombing. Lots more.

Scratch peace off the list.

16. Not a peep on the evening news
Dammit, this is important, we're bombing Iraq. You'd think ABC would at least mention it.

I'm pissed. Explosions in Baghdad are never explained; dead soldiers are barely mentioned; now we're BOMBING and the newscasters don't consider it important enough to mention.

17. Did DU saying their were many fighters going over Scotland?
These are most likely the new ones coming in, you got to know that Bush's temper is most likely at the breaking point so now it is kill every one in Sadam home city. I am willing to bet they bomb it off the face of the earth. Poll numbers down so time to bomb.

27. USAF ...bombs away
Just the other day on DU were posted some comments about the USAF and how they weren't contributing anymore to the Iraqi occupation... now this. After 6 months the air force is back in the game. Next I guess will be the navy. They just called up marines to go back, and 40,000 reserves. Nope, we ain't leaving anytime soon. The UN has pulled back, the Red Crescent and Doctors Without Borders say it's too dangerous to continue operations in Iraq. Add it all up and it spells:

Q U A G M I R E

Hey George! We told you so, but, no, you didn't listen. You called us "Just some focus group". Here's too hoping the voices of the innocents you and your cabal have killed haunt you the rest of your life!

26. The Bush Jobs Plan
This should escalate things nicely.

That will be another 85,000 part-time jobs in the Guard and Reserve to go over there and be roadside bomb fodder.

Then there will be at least 100 or so jobs added by defense contractors who need to build more cruise missiles.

Yeah! and it will only cost us 50 lives a month and a few hundred billion dollars.

30. we're bombing in retaliation for a "crash"
they couldn't even tell the truth yesterday and say "it got shot down".

No, they called it a "crash". "it's under investigation".

Gee, seems they took an eye for an eye before the investigation even got started. Guess they were pretty freaking sure what caused the "crash", no?
