(AP) LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Police Commission has publicly affirmed a decision made during a closed-door meeting two months ago to stop identifying police officers involved in shootings.
The commission affirmed the decision Tuesday on a four-to-nothing vote. Commissoner Anthony Pacheco was absent.
Commission President John Mack says the change, which overturned a 25-year-old policy, was made after commissioners were told that officers' identities were protected under state law.
Police union officials had long called for the change, arguing that releasing officers' names could expose them to danger.
