In Baghdad, NBC Comes Under Fire, Twice
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 04:55 AM by khephra
It was a world exclusive for NBC's Jim Miklaszewski, the only television reporter able to show footage of the devastating attack on a Baghdad hotel that narrowly missed Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz.

But some U.S. officials in Iraq raised fierce objections and tried to block Miklaszewski and his cameraman from filming the scene. "The NBC journalists conducted themselves in a wholly inappropriate, uncaring and insensitive manner," says Gary Thatcher, communications chief for the U.S. occupation authority. "Instead of rendering or summoning aid, they focused on gathering video footage of people in agonizingly painful situations . . . in order to boost the ratings."

Says Miklaszewski: "I realized they were very emotional, very upset, that they had been attacked. But frankly, we had a job to do -- cover the attack on the al-Rashid Hotel as best we could. We were being as unobtrusive as we possibly could. . . .

"Our impression was that this was an attempt to censor the news. This event shot holes in the administration's insistence that everything was going well in Baghdad."

A British press officer with the CPA says she told the two men while they were filming in the lobby, "I swear to God, if you do not take that tape out of that camera, I am going to kill you."

1. Shaking my head...
wondering what it is going to take to wake the rest of this country up?!!?! When are they going to realize what is going on? I am truly frightened for my country. I fear my own country's govt. and what they are doing more than any terrorist out there.

No matter who wins our primary we all have to come together and do everything in our power to prevent this Selected Pres. from destroying this country.

5. We the People demand that you deliver us the truth. We do not
want to be on your special diet. Journalists are neither medics or responsible for crisis control. Their job is to give the people the facts, of which we get very few.

FUCK YOU and your black-out.

10. FUCK THEM ALL
Most AMERIKAN news ie FAUX NBC CBS is now nothing but propaganda. Luckily I am fluent in French. Their news is much more to the point and shows that the KING has NO clothes.

I can't wait to see how they cover the CHIMPANZEE'S "World VICTORY" tour to London later this month

LOL------ NBC and FAUX what MOTHER FUCKERS.

7. Maybe The Press Shouldn't Be So Out And Open With Who/What They Are
filming. The coverage may be better if they try to be more covert. We want the INSIDE scoop, not just the 'everything's just fine' version that the pentagon wants us to see.

8. Remember the good old times when a war reporter was a good guy?
It was after the dynosaurs, but before the bush dynasty. You see, kids, in those times the press took risks to keep checks on authority. They were actually telling people what goverment did wrong. Heck, I even remember olf black and white grainy movies where reporters were the heroes of stories...
Grandpa: "what is that thing you call "truth"?
