Report: Bush Opposes Money For Gulf War POWs
http://www.thehawaiichannel.com/news/2623510/detail.html

WASHINGTON -- A fight over money pits the White House against some American troops who said they were tortured in Iraqi prisons during the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

According to The New York Times, the Bush administration is seeking to block the troops from collecting millions of dollars they won in a federal court ruling against Saddam Hussein's government.

Lawyers for the administration said the Iraqi assets frozen in bank accounts in the United States are needed for Iraq's reconstruction.

One former POW told the Times that the amount of money he and others are seeking is "a drop of blood in the bucket" compared with what the administration wants for post-war Iraq.

5. No surprise here, just more disgust
After all our pResident is sending $87 BILLION to Iraq (Halliburton) rather keep that money here when the country is crumbling in so many, many ways. Schools, roads, healthcare (Kentucky just announced that it will be charging poor children in its health plan $20 to 30 a month for their health care), no jobs worth a damn, states budgets going belly up, cuts to veterans, no money spent to prevent CA fires, and on, and on. The BFEE isn't going to have any sympathy for some poor vets, after all, if they deserved the money, GAWD would already have smiled on them and blessed them with riches to prove their worth.

7. Poll results: 91% say Bush should pay
The Bush administration seeks to block some U.S. troops, who said they were tortured in Iraqi prisons during Gulf War, from collecting millions of dollars won in a federal court ruling against Saddam Hussein's government. They say the money is needed to rebuild Iraq. Should the ex-POWs be paid?
