Seoul okays 3000 troops to be dispatched to Iraq
South Korea confirmed yesterday that it will send thousands of troops to Iraq to help U.S. forces there.

Washington and Seoul, however, differed on the size of South Korea's troop deployment, with Seoul offering to send 3,000 soldiers while Washington requested more, said Lee Soo-hyuk, a senior Foreign Ministry official.

The two sides will continue their discussions when U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld visits Seoul in mid-November, said Lee, who led a government delegation to Washington last week to work out details of the deployment.

"After Turkey canceled its plan to dispatch troops, the U.S. earnestly wants other countries to send troops," Lee told Seoul media. "The U.S. expects much from South Korea, which is a staunch ally."

Every citizen in Asia hate Bush and Bush's Butchering. This decision was made by a few Korean men for profit and NOT for morals.

1. It should be noted...
Seoul has proposed 3,000 non-combat troops.

Also from:http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/SITE/data/html_dir/2003/11/10/200311100052.asp
"We are of the understanding that the Iraqi forces threatening the security situation there are becoming better organized and more aggressive since late October," Yonhap News Agency quoted Kim Man-bok of the National Security Council as saying.

"The security situation in the Sunni Triangle has reached a serious level and that in Mosul is not so good, either," he added.

And I don't think this troop dispatch has been definitely determined. I believe that South Korea will wait until there is a new agreement signed on North Korea before they send troops. I'm planning on going out to protest Donald Rumsfeld when he visits. Any ideas for signs?

3. Coalition of the Willing: Bush, Blair & now 3000 Koreans...
...it's a start, but Bush/media made out like we had some kind of massive coalition/world support BEFORE the war...

...truth is Bush/media lied- we are painted in a corner and now begging the likes of Turkey and Korea to play the part of NATO...

AMERICANS are still stuck with the 87$ Billion bill too- any chance the "Coalition of the Willing" (apparently comprised inacitive Turks & 3000 Koreans, ans headquartered in Cypruss) wanna help us with that tab as well???

7. Lets see if any actually get sent in the end
Something tells me Korea's famously 'outspoken' student community will have a thing to two to say about it.

I'd say there's a fair chance that this decision will create so much unrest in Korea that it will be reversed before any Korean troops actually end up in Iraq.

Looks like 50%/50% from here.
