Letterman lands Lynch (CBS PR)
RESCUED P.O.W. JESSICA LYNCH TO MAKE HER

ONLY LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW APPEARANCE ON CBS'S

"LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN," FRIDAY, NOV. 14

ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

Rescued U.S. prisoner of war Jessica Lynch talks about her experiences in Iraq when she makes her only late night talk show appearance on the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, this Friday, Nov. 14 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Lynch, whose authorized biography I Am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Rick Bragg, is scheduled to be released in bookstores Tuesday (11).

Lynch was captured in Iraq on March 23, 2003, after her U.S. Army unit, the 507th Maintenance Company, was ambushed in Nasiriyah. On April 1, U.S. Special Forces rescued her from Saddam Hospital and brought her to safety. After returning to the United States and recuperating at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., she received a hero's welcome upon her return to her hometown of Palestine, W. Va., on Tuesday, July 22. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on Aug. 27.

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Maria Pope, Barbara Gaines, Jude Brennan and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

(Since it's a press release, it is posted in its entirety)

Shall we get stranger and stranger? The play on this story is going beyond the pale of taste or spin no matter which side you want to look from.

2. So, do people selling their books pay for these advertisements?
The "talk" shows seem to have a lot of people on just about the time they are promoting a new book or soon to be released movie, and I was wondering how it works.

Does anyone know where Lynch is donating the proceeds of her book?

3. No but I would like to see her bring other members of the 507th on
This is just the promotional cycle. In NYC they tend to go on the Today Show, Dave, and Regis.

4. um, that's the whole idea
Celebs (or what passes for them, show on the talk shows when they have something to promote. Otherwise, why bother? The show gets the viewers that big stars bring in, and the guests gets free PR for their latest project. There are no fees involved (well, maybe some small kickbacks, but I doubt that even, there's too much money involved) Letterman makes 15 million dollars a year, you think he's taking a cuple of grand to havea guest?

I guess this means Pfc. Lynch didn't think much of the NBC movie?

13. $400/show, expenses + modest royalties
I'm curious about this. It could be big--huge audience and media coverage that isn't usually given to these kinds of stories (you know--the ones that the truth comes out later and no one ever hears about it).

The Bush people are trying to bury this story. They've already buried 4 of her fellow servicemen.

6. Here’s hoping she hasn’t been told to shut-up…
And she’s able to continue to blast the powers-that-be about the fabrications in front of a much larger audience….Will David prod her and risk the wrath of the GOP Gestapo or will he play it conservative and present the pretty young face as apple pie? I’m sure the CBS execs will have tad more input than usual with regard to this guest…

15. I'm quite sure she *has* been told to shut up. She hasn't, yet.
Letterman is notorious for getting laughs at Bush's expense, so I think it speaks volumes that she chose to go on Letterman instead of Leno. I just hope she tells her simple truth. I don't think we can hope for more or less.

8. All double standards aside (other POWs)
Dave is a good enough forum if she wants to criticize Bush a little. He was very congenial to Hillary and other liberals and enjoys bashing Bush a little himself. :)

11. Did CBS run Dave's question list by Mike Reagan for approval?
If he is not available, then I am sure Hannity, Fox news or the RNC will be glad to proofread them for "accurracy."

Boycott CBS. Email them and call them and tell them why.

16. She didn't ask for the Bush Administration to make her a poster child.
I don't think that what is going on now means that she's being "lionized". She's telling the truth. There was no Rambo-like gun battle. Her gun jammed. The Iraqi hospital personnel treated her kindly. She criticizes the hype of the Bush Administration, especially the made-for-TV rescue.

She's telling her side of the story. If people think that's heroic, and I do, she deserves their admiration. She's standing up to Bush.

17. I think getting her TRUE story out will be good.
She's been totally against the crap the WH PR has spread about her. I hope she rips Bush on this one.

18. that's exactly what she's been saying ...

In interviews, she's been giving the credit to other people -- especially her colleagues who went through a similar ordeal but haven't gotten money and recognition -- and her friend Lori, who died and left behind young children.

I've talked to people who were in combat or survived major disasters, and I've noticed that the bravest of them have this kind of modesty. They don't swagger around calling themselves heroes. I haven't heard any self-aggrandizing quotes from Ms. Lynch, and I admire her for that.

Her family's not exactly rolling in dough (she joined the service to get money so she could go to college and become a teacher). It must have been a real temptation to become the administration's poster child for this war -- I'll bet they offered all kinds of financial inducements, plus the promise of fame and adulation from the right-wingers. All she had to do in exchange was say what she was told to say.

But she didn't.

19. drudge's newest headlines have this going on: (jessica nude pics)
SOURCES: NY DAILY NEWS PAGE ONE TUESDAY: 'HUSTLER' TOPLESS SNAPS OF JESSICA LYNCH; PAPER SET TO EXPLORE PENDING PUBLICATION OF YOUNG LYNCH PHOTOS...

AMBUSHED AGAIN!

--Skin mag says it has topless photos of Jessica before she went to Iraq

--War hero’s spokesman rips plan to publish pix as “unspeakable.”

------------------

perhaps for her sake it's a good idea for jessica to appear on letterman rather than leno. letterman is more of a gentleman and probably won't bring up the nude photo nightmare.
