Bush poised to axe Iraq ruling council
The Washington Post newspaper quoted a senior US official as saying the Bush administration has become alarmed at the council’s failure to make important decisions. According to the paper, the US is actively looking for an alternative strategy.

It has reportedly become frustrated by individual members on the US-appointed council who, officials say, spend all their time promoting private agendas rather than making important collective decisions.

Although the council does include figures from each of Iraq's Sunni, Shia and Kurdish groups, its members were handpicked by the Americans and there have been doubts about whether some represent anyone but themselves. The council was set up soon after Baghdad was taken, when many in the US assumed the transition to an elected government would be a matter of months. Now it is acknowledged by all sides this is untenable.

12. all part of the plan!

The Council was too unwieldy.. gotta whittle it down abit. Of course, Chalabi's on the new, smaller, more "flexible" Council...

Then that will be seen as a little too clunky. Best to get it down to a three man "executive committee". One of them being Chalabi of course...

Gosh, three cooks is a bit much, so let's make one "Senior Director".. hmmmm..who should we appoint.... decisions, decisions.

While I'm glad to see that someone in the Chimpministration has read a book about The French Revolution and Napoleon's rise to power, I think they should do a bit more research before they just try to apply it.

23. Right on target. Idealogues don't last long in this world.
Unfortunately, the Plan B will be based on the same unrealistic, ideaologic wish-and-a-prayer with no contingency and no basis in ethics.

Why should the next plan be any different?

Christ, how can they be so insanely stupid? Anyone with more than 1/2 a brain knew that Ahmed Chalabi and his cronies were a bunch of self-serving thieves with no local support.

15. Of one thing you can be absolutely 100% certain
The Busheviks will NOT have free and fair elections in Iraq. EVER.

You could make book on it.

Now, if the Busheviks could get some o' them fancy Diebold machines, the Iraqis could have Imperial Amerikan-style elections. But they wouldn't be much different than Iraqi elections under Saddam in that the winner would already be a forgeone conclusion

But, hey, the Diebold phony vote would be alot closer than the Saddam 99-1% phony vote, giving the ILLUSION that the guy the Busheviks didn't want actually had a chance.

Just like Imperial Amerika 2004.

24. Perle arguing against it
The full story has a quote from Perle in it that makes me think this may well just be an extension of the State-Defense Dept fight going public. Sounds like State is getting a little frustrated by the lack of any hope for a constitutional system as it is.
