Welcome to Arkansas, Mr Bush (from Clark)
Welcome to Arkansas Mr. Bush
http://clark04.com/press/release/069/
Little Rock - Today, President George W. Bush is paying a visit to Arkansas, Wes Clark's home state.

In the spirit of southern hospitality, Clark said: "Welcome to Arkansas, where we are still waiting for the economic recovery you've been boasting about."

The latest labor figures show that Arkansas is still losing jobs. Last month, the state unemployment rate jumped to 6.2 percent-the highest level in more than a decade.

The average income in Arkansas is $23,512 and the price of admission to the President's fundraiser lunch is $2,000 a plate. So the average Arkansan won't be able to attend.

Communications Director Matt Bennett suggested, "Mr. Bush, maybe next time you come to Little Rock you can pick a more affordable place to eat. I recommend the Whole Hog Cafe, but they're known for their ribs-and you seem to prefer baloney."

5. Wouldn't it be more efficient to simply provide Clark's campaign
site URL in some other place on DU, instead of posting all the press releases from that site separately on LBN?

The other candidates have all kinds of little stories like this but I don't see such a concerted effort to treat each of them as breaking news...

6. Well, why don't you post your candidate's press releases.....
stop whining for goodness sakes.

For one...I am not a Clark supporter. I don't seek out his press releases. Have no intention of doing so.

but I sure do appreciate people putting his stuff front and center.

And I haven't seen much from the other candidates that has quite the polished spin that Clark puts on things. His wit and piercing vision of REALITY is incomparable.

8. The media pretends Clark doesn't exist. Can his supporters fight that
or is it only Bush who is allowed to make news on DU?
I don't have access to CNN, NYT, Wash Post which just about call the primaries - polls and voters be damned. So, just don't read if you're not interested, OK?

7. It's finally starting.

There's one thing I've been thinking but not saying for a long time now, and I'm pleased to see that I'm gradually being proven correct in my theory. Here it is:

As the campaigns really start to heat up, as always, we will see the President's campaign strategy talk up his accomplishments. What I predict will happen is that for every major campaign statement Bush makes, each and every one of the Dems will rebut in his or her own way. This is beginning to happen now, with Dean's staffs' comments regarding the RNC request to divulge contribution information and adhere to 'the rules', to which a spokeswoman for Dean responded,

"We're not sure why the most special interest-controlled White House in history wants to introduce a conversation about who controls their campaign, but we'd love to talk about it," Dean spokeswoman Tricia Enright said

to Clark's and Bennett's comments:

"In the spirit of southern hospitality, Clark said: "Welcome to Arkansas, where we are still waiting for the economic recovery you've been boasting about."

and

"Communications Director Matt Bennett suggested, "Mr. Bush, maybe next time you come to Little Rock you can pick a more affordable place to eat. I recommend the Whole Hog Cafe, but they're known for their ribs-and you seem to prefer baloney."

respectively.

What we're going to see and hear are a lot of messages ranging from direct rebuttals- such as the Dean response at the top- to accurately sarcastic, as we see from Clark's communications director. In every case, the frontrunners at least will be scathing in their criricism, and they'll use the very actions Bush is going to tout in order to facilitate that.

It's called 'attitude'- that stiff upper lip and deadpan expression coupled with comments both scathing and sarcastic, yet devilishly accurate. It's something devastating for Bush, because the Dems are starting to use his own gaffes and blunders against him.

Now imagine nine candidates' worth of rebuttal such as quoted above. Those are a few quotable quotes right there.

It's only fair, since he's supposed to be the guy in charge. If Bush loses- and I think he'll either win big or lose big, and in any case the voter turnout is likely to be historic in size, as Bush has completely polarized this nation- the Republicans will be out of office for a good long time, possibly decades.

Why do I think that? Because what they did to Clinton was a one-shot affair. If they tried similar tactics again, I somehow doubt that public would buy into it. In fact, if a Dem wins and we see an immediate assault from the right against him or her, it will only serve to confirm in many people's minds Hillary's comments regarding a 'vast right-wing conspiracy'.

My point here is that they can't rerun their game from the same old playbook they used on Clinton and expect the public to buy into it. And I think expressing that attitude I described above would go a long way toward notifying the Republicans that the days of their monopoly on speech critical of the minority opposition are at an end.

Every single one of our candidates need to be seen as unassailable. Force the Bush maladministration to prove its lies, and simply sit back and watch as the wheels fall off Bush's whole machine.

Ah well. I can dream.

11.  Dean vs. Clark

No matter how much you like Dean, Democrats must consider who is the candidate that will beat Bush. Wes Clark appeals to everyone, including dissatisfied Republicans and Independents. Dean might be the sweetheart of the Democratic party, but what's it worth to win the battle and lose the war?

15. Amazing, one post
and already I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Guess why Dean has the money and Clark doesn't? Because he appeals to more people... independants and crossover voters included... small donations from a wide range of fed up voters. His campaign is electric.

Clark is not going to be the nominee, but I appreciate any attack he makes on shrubco in the meantime.

Despite your uneducated attack on Dean, welcome to DU anyway.

BTW... I agree with a previous poster, if we have to read all these Clark press releases as "breaking news", why not the other candidates as well?

16. Clark on Buchanan and press today
was very professional. I was really impressed with him. He would not allow himself to be dragged into disparaging comments about fellow candidates and I applaud him highly for that. He seems to be a man of integrity, sticks to the subject, and that is what we need in this country. The other candidates could take a lesson from him.

22. Watch him on RTV
I watching the Rock the Vote tape for the second time. When it was originally on, I noticed that at one point Clark had slid off the stool, but was leaning on it with his body perfectly straight. It seemed a strange posture.

On the second viewing, after having seen the still pictures of him with his finger pointing a Dean's chest with Clark's face revealing no angry, but obviously into Dean's face, I watched with a different lens.

Dean starts some riff about how Clark supported going to war. At that point, Clark breaks into a smile and sorta tilts his head. It is then that he slids into position with both feet firmly planted. The second the break comes, Clark is moving toward Dean and reaches him before anyone else. With his finger pointed but his body turned to the side, Clark calmly dresses Dean down.

Clark choses never to go public with his complaints about the others, but he is not to be fucked with. Dean may be scoring points by twisting his opponents words, and sorry to say, it may work. But Clark is right to hold his fire in public about the team he wants to win. The enemy lives in the White House.

I would also be surprized if he would accept a vp spot if offered by Dean. Sure it is all politics, but there are lines of honor that should not be crossed or else you might wake up and find an "R" after your name.

23. How Clark saw it...
And yes, the note is from him:

Had a great day in Arizona, visited VA hospitals, talking to vets and others. Caught a Republican "plant" at one meeting, we think! Had fun wrestling with Buchanan and Press and Maria on Capital Report! And now on the red-eye to NH.

Wes
