Gonzales says he's independent, but still a policy advocate for Bush

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose first year in office has been dominated by issues connected to his earlier job as White House counsel, said Wednesday that he regards himself as independent of the Oval Office, but that he nonetheless remains a policy advocate for President Bush.

"Sure, I have to be independent as attorney general," Gonzales said in an interview. "But I think people lose sight of the fact that for purposes of policy, I'm still on the president's team, and I feel a responsibility and I'm expected to act as a member of the president's team in connection with pushing forward the president's agenda."

Still, Gonzales said, "if I believe something is wrong, I will tell the president of the United States that something is wrong."

Gonzales said proof of his autonomy will be seen in his department's performance, particularly in cases brought by the agency's career prosecutors. "No matter who you are, no matter what party you may be affiliated with, if you've done something you shouldn't be doing, we're going to go after it," he said.

1. He said at the hearings last week that his client
was the President of the United States.

I think he needs to read his job description again.

5. You omit the words "in this case" and such but,
he shouldn't have said that the way he said it, anyway.

8. He's nothing but a crooked 'fixer'...ever since he conjured up that phony
excuse to get Bush out of grand jury duty in Texas, which would have revealed his felony and thus probably cost him the Presidency, he's been the First Fixer. Gonzales belongs in jail.

WHAT ??!!! that is utter and complete horse shit. he serves the PEOPLE, not that piece of walking offal who occupies the oval office! but he's proven himself to be a completely biased bush toady in his time as AG, a truly scary development. in a just world, he'd be turfed somehow by a responsible congress.
