Bad news for Bush ahead of UK visit
http://breakingnews.iol.ie/news/story.asp?j=85377992&p=85378698

Voters in Britain dislike British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s close relationship with US President George W Bush, a poll revealed tonight.

Britons are critical of Mr Bush’s handling of Iraq and believe he has damaged America’s standing in the world, the Populus survey found.

The findings, published in The Times, come ahead of the US President’s visit to Britain later this month.

A majority, 60%, disapprove of the way he is dealing with Iraq compared to the 20% who back his actions.

Women were more critical with 67% opposed to Mr Bush’s policy and just 14% supporting him.

Among swing voters 62% disapproved while just 17% who thought he was right.

Almost half of all those asked, 49%, thought military action had been wrong compared with 24% back in April.

At the same time those saying he did the right thing halved from 64% to 32%.

Less than half, 40%, thought Britain benefited from Mr Blair’s close ties to the President
<snip>

Holy cow! The Britons don't like Bush!

6. They "hate bush" over there in Britian because
they get the real news.

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/story.jsp?story=461995

"Reg Keys, whose son, Lance Corporal Thomas Keys, was one of the six Royal Military Police killed by a mob near Basra in June, said he had developed "a quite passionate hatred" of the US leader.

"I can't stand the man," said Mr Keys, 51, of Llanuwchllyn, north Wales. "He has a nerve coming over to this country after all the misery he's caused. I just can't understand why Bush was so keen to go to war against Iraq - it's almost as if he was hell bent on making a name for himself."

His criticisms - which follow angry criticism of Tony Blair's conduct over Iraq by the families of eight British war dead - were supported by the mother of one of the first Britons killed in the war, L/Cpl Shaun Brierley.

Christine Brierley, from Batley, West Yorkshire, said: "I think it's disgusting the way Bush is carrying on. It's a war that should never have been fought: then dragging England into it when it wasn't our war anyway. I just wish all the troops were back home - Americans and English. At the end of the day, what's going to be resolved?"

7. I Hope The Visit Is Cancelled
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 06:53 PM by Don_G
Dimbo shouldn't have to close down a city of 10 million or a major financial world hub just to massage his ego and to protect his candy a**.

Besides, the visit is expected to cost the British Government 4 Million Pounds; an expenditure they shouldn't have to pay.

On Edit: The Secret Service has been granted permission to shoot British citizens on their own soil "should it become necessary."

8. Looks to me like a very bad decision
did Bush think he would wax triumphant in Britain? What the hell did he think? This man is out of it. I would suggest , George, that youcancel your trip and tell your frump to not bother packing her apholstry gowns--you are not wanted there. And further, your insistence upon going, costing us --well costint us how much george, in view of the fact that you need, absolutely NEED about six hundred "support" staff to see to it that you get your photo ops and descend upon Britain as the great warrior commander in chief--George, they ain't buying it--they can see right through you and your apholstry dedicated frump's agenda. You, George, are an embarrassment by insisting upon this "triumphant" entry into Trafalgar Square. Yea for the Brits--embarrass him--make him hide--make the visit known to be a failure -- make him run scared with all of his six hundred support people--(acutally troops)

And Laura--we do not need you to appear before the Queen wearing another atrocity--please--go to your room--you do nothing for the country--all you do is follow orders.

why on earth he's going over there? Does he really enjoy spreading riots and destruction everywhere he goes? Surely he must have figured out that most of the world hates him. I would have thrown in the towel by now.

19. Shouldn't the UK public be focusing on Prince Charles?

People keep making excuses for their appalling lack of interest in Kobe and Lacy and Elizabeth Smart, but it seems a little much that they would be concerning themselves with bush and blair right in the heat of the Prince Charles scandal.

That's just un-American.

20. Of cause we don't like Bush
There's going to be protests of hundreds of thousands of people on a weekday!
People are submitting statements to the police calling for him to be arrested for crimes against humanity as soon as he enters the country.

If they managed to shut London down for 3 days I think the government would face civil war. It's not going to happen.

There's talk of him making a speech to parliament. I'd *LOVE* to see that ("GIVE WAY!" - "GIVE WAY!" - "WILL THE WAR CRIMINAL PLEASE GIVE WAY!" - "GIVE WAY!")

Bu$h in the same room as Galloway. Ha ha ha ha ha.

23. The Brits
I just returned from a two week visit to England. NOT ONE person I talked to likes Bush. Only two still support Blair and that's because they think he trusted Bush and Co. and now has to continue the
b.s. Mr. David Kelly was mentioned by a good number of people and they think the government was complicit in his death. I talked to
clerks, cabbies, biz people, hotel employees, co-workers. The dislike is visceral toward Bush. Oh I felt so at home!!!

40. Yep, sounds about right
I've lived here all my life. I can't find anybody who likes Bush (which is why I think the survey is completely twisted).

I'd be supprised if there were less than five assassination attempts while he is here, and I don't think any political leader has been assassinated here since... hmm... err...
I can't think of one. Maybe Richard III but that was in a battle. And I suppose charging at the enemy army almost by yourself is a pretty stupid thing to do. Still, I suppose he was the intended target.

http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/page158.asp
However, his administration ended when John Bellingham shot Perceval dead in the lobby of the House of Commons. Bellingham was a merchant who who had business debts in Russia. He had tried to recover compensation from the government for his losses, but was refused. He consequently blamed Perceval for the failure of his business. (1812)

Execution of Charles I, Whitehall (just up the road), 1649

Attempted assassination: Gunpowder Plot, 1605 (Houses of Parliament)

Maybe this is why Chimp backed out of addressing Parliament?

The fact that he's from the same party as Blair doesn't make his a fascist as well.
Blair is fighting his own party far more than the main opposition.
Over a hundred labour MPs voted against the government on Iraq, against a 3 line whip (which means - "you vote against this and we'll chuck you out of the party").

I'd vote for a *anybody* rarther than elect Blair.
I'm sure I'm in the majority.
