Gonzales Rebuffs Democrats on Abramoff

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales brushed aside requests on Thursday that he step aside in the investigation of Jack Abramoff and the lobbyist‘s ties to Bush administration officials and members of Congress.

Thirty-one Senate Democrats said in a letter to Gonzales that he was too close to the president and top administration officials who have had dealings with Abramoff, and immediately should remove himself from the investigation.

"Considering 28 of the 31 Democrats have received Abramoff-affiliated funds themselves, it appears their hypocrisy has exceeded even their partisanship," said Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee .

...

Justice Department spokeswoman Tasia Scolinos said Gonzales has followed all department guidelines and that there is "no reason for him to recuse himself from the investigation at this time."

4. Jeez, the "lie" again...sheesh
"Considering 28 of the 31 Democrats have received Abramoff-affiliated funds themselves, it appears their hypocrisy has exceeded even their partisanship," said Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee.

Wasn't it goebbles that said "tell a lie long enough, and it becomes truth"?

Just amazing what the sheep will believe.
The facts stare them in the face, yet they believe that it is "a bipartisan" scandal.

Note to the sheep:

THE DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS RECEIVED NOT ONE DIME FROM JACKIE BOY!! NOT 1!!!

There, do you think they got it?
Sadly, no.

7. Let's snatch away their "cover" on this...
What they're doing is equating legitimate campaign contributions from the INdian tribes to the bribery and corruption associated with Abramoff. Since that's the game they want to play, let's ban direct campaign contributions of any sort and do pulicly financed campaigns. No gifts of any sort from lobbyists either. Issue advocacy to the public is out as well. You want your "free speech" use lobbyists to talk to Congress.

You pay for it and you get good advocates, but even a hint of any Congresscritter (or their family/aides/spouses/spouses of aides/girlfriend/boyfriend) or a Senator (and THEIR family/aides/spouses/spouses of aides/girlfriend/boyfriend) acceptoing any gifts, and lobbyist and Congresscritter or Senator and all the family/aides/spouses/spouses of aides/girlfriend/boyfriend involved go directly to jail for life for corrupting public morals.

Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 05:52 PM by fearnobush
So typical of the swine party. The sad thing is that it works because people are dumb and they know just how dumb they are, especially there own constituency.

When are Dems gonna break from there cages and call these fuckers Liars and cheats? I can't take this party seriously until they call a spade a spade.

Elected Democratic leaders: CALL THESE FUCKERS LIARS ALREADY!

19. Tell those whores
at the Washington Post that.

They're still spreading that bullshit that the tribes gave money to Dems at the behest of Abramoff.

It's amazing how low supposedly "credible" sources have sunk. They are all outlets of propaganda now. It seems like everyone is literally just reprinting the RNC press releases.

12. WHY are NO Dems LOUDLY refuting this?
We KNOW they did NOT take $ from Abramoff. They have have gotten $ from the indian tribes or other Abramoff donors, HOWEVER that is NOT the same as taking the bribe money FROM ABRAMOFF.

Hellooooooooooooo?

Is ANYBODY with A SPINE AND A VOICE awake out there in DemLand?

Guess NOT. GOD I'm so SICK of Democrats getting their asses kicked on the political playground by STUPID Repigs - they LET them get away with this type of MISINFORMATION every time.

13. her argument is ridiculous
"Considering 28 of the 31 Democrats have received Abramoff-affiliated funds themselves, it appears their hypocrisy has exceeded even their partisanship," said Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee .

Look, Tracey, I'll type real slow so you can keep up - the Democrats WANT an investigation, it is your party that wants to sweep this under the rug. If the Democrats had something to hide, wouldn't they be IN FAVOR of keeping a political hack in charge since they would also want it swept under the rug as quietly and quickly as possibly? Could it possibly be that a real investigation will show that this is an entirely Republican corruption scandal?

14. Nah Tracy, you should've made it all 31. More convincing that way.
And not just Abramoff-affiliated funds, but his personal contributions, and that he's been their closest confidant.

Just for you Tracy, I'll go slow.

They. Did. Not. Receive. Any. Money. From. Abramoff. Or. Money. Directed. by him.
They were his clients, that had pre-existing relationships with Dem Congresspeople. Abramoff would sooner eat his left nut than contribute to, or direct money to, a Democrat. Got it?

Unbelievable. When will the media start calling them on their bullshit!!

Carl Bernstein on Larry King tonite? Bernstein came right out and said this administration is totally corrupt from top to bottpm. He minced no words. Said Abramoff is merely a reflection of the corruption. Meanwhile the wuss, Woodward , sat there with a dumb look on his face. Bernstein equates Congress with money.

17. Why shouldn't he rebuff the Dems?
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 01:28 AM by depakid
It's not like they'll EVER take any action against the far right.

They've made themselves utterly irrelevant in national politics. All they do is whine.

So, what does anyone expect?

They had several golden opportunities to stand up, be assertive and LEAD over the past month. And what did they do?

They acted like battered women and made excuses for being abused.

And they let the abusers continue to abuse their constituents.

If I were a Republican (with all that entails)- I wouldn't give the Dems anything other than my backside to kiss- or the backside of my hand if they don't. That's what they seem to want, in a learned helplessness sort of way.
