Blood flows during workers' march in Lesotho
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 08:18 PM by dArKeR
Maseru - Lesotho police fired on a union-led protest march on Monday, leaving at least one person dead and many others injured, a hospital official said in the mountain kingdom's capital Maseru.

Billy Macaefa, a union leader and member of Lesotho's parliament, said he believed at least five workers had been killed.

The death toll could not be verified.

Thousands of disgruntled workers from the Factory Workers' Union (FAWU) marched to the offices of the Employers' Association of Lesotho early Monday seeking to hand over a petition calling for a 5,5-percent wage increase.

"As the workers approached the building, police without warning opened fire on the workers at around noon," said a witness who asked not to be named.
