NEW YORK ? Pornmeister Larry Flynt (search) said he's bought purported
nude photos of Iraq war heroine Jessica Lynch (search) - to keep them
from ever being published.

Flynt's claim came as Lynch and her family were feted last night at a
Glamour magazine reception at the American Museum of Natural History
(search) - and on the day before her authorized biography is to be
released.

"I was offered photos of Jessica Lynch. I purchased them in order to
keep them out of circulation, not to publish them," Flynt, publisher of
Hustler magazine, said in a statement read by a publicist.

Flynt is no dummy. He knows that Lynch is the quickly growing target of the rightwing, and he's heading them off at the pass AND making it public knowledge that he knows what they are up to at the same time.

This is a brand new, yet welcome, wrinkle in the story. I really hope Flynt is good for his word. As an added bonus he oughta publically name the sleezeball who offered to sell him the pics. Almost certainly it was one of Pvt. Lynch's comrades in arms who has no better loyalty to a fellow soldier than to tray and make a buck off her fame.

I also wonder if we're hearing the whole story. My gut tells me we're not. That is, it's possible that someone either convinced or "convinced" Flynt not to publish (as he first announced he would) topless pictures of America's latest icon. The only face saver then left to Flynt would be to announce the whole "gonna publish" announcement was a publicity stunt to make himself look like a hero.

In the interest of disclosure I should say that I don't like Larry Flynt very much.

11. Hope It's True

I hope Larry Flynt's claim is true. If it is, good for you, sir! I think it's a gallant move and it's fun to watch you change your behavior every now and again to confound the right-wing talking heads.

I do hope that the original photographer doesn't have any more prints or negatives of Ms. Lynch in his/her/its possession to sell to right-wing scandal-mongers.

there is no nude photos whatsoever, and larry flint is makin this whole story up, so that he can get an image boost, and make it look like the reich-wing was wantin' to go after her etc....

C'mon, maybe a little far fetched conspiracy theory, but not completely out of Flynt's league.
