MANCHESTER, Nov. 11-- Gen. Wesley Clark met with New Hampshire veterans Tuesday to thank them for their service and ask them for their vote.

Clark toured the VA Hospital unburdened by his traveling press circus before eating lunch and speaking to veterans at the Sweeney VFW Post, along the way unloading on the Bush Administration for what he deemed was a lack of commitment to the country’s veterans.

“One of the things you do on Veterans Day is you honor the people that served,” Clark said. “You also conduct an inventory. You ask yourself how well are we fulfilling our responsibilities as Americans to honor and take care of those who served.”

Clark spent the day not only criticizing the Bush Administration for cuts in veterans’ benefits, but also continuing on his theme of the need for a “success strategy” in Iraq.

“That’s the obligation of any commander -- to have a good plan and to make it work,” Clark said.

He added that the struggles facing veterans today shouldn’t be faced by those who are veterans in the making.

“There are a lot of things we can do to help our veterans; we should do it,” Clark said. “We should also be helping the men and women who serve, and to that the best help we can give them, especially in Iraq right now, is a strategy for success.”
