Colonialism was completely discredited by the end of WWII. The US foolishly and tragically went back for another taste in Vietnam. Now we're at it again.

The regime keeps trying to characterize everything that happens as something new and diabolical. This is the classic Islamic response to foreign invasion. The resistance doesn't recognize international boundaries. (Neither do we.) But it does recognize that one cannot rule in the absence of civil order. Without civil order, there is no mainstream Iraqi support for the American venture. This foreign adventure in colonialism is marked by so many false assumptions that it was doomed to failure from the start.
