Recruiter Gets In Hot Water Over Craigslist Ad

PORTLAND, Ore. - An Oregon National Guard recruiter is in hot water after posting an ad on the popular Web site 'craigslist' promising recruits they would not have to serve overseas if they signed up.

The ad, which has since been deleted, was posted in the Portland section of craigslist and read "our unit is deployed, so you will not have to serve overseas."

However, Colonel Ray Meyer with the Oregon National Guard says there is absolutely no guarantee that a recruit would not get deployed.

"No, that's not a good thing and that has been removed," he said. "There's always a potential for deployment. I could be activated for deployment tomorrow."

1. My son was told when he signed up
if he chose to be an MP he would only go to Guantanamo bay, not Iraq or Afghanistan.

That would have turned out to be a great choice. :eyes:

Luckily he has not been deployed yet. :knockonwoodsmiley:

4. My cousin was promised he would not be deployed to Iraq.
He was stationed in Germany and was getting out. They offered a bonus and guaranteed in writing that he would remain stationed in Germany if he reinlisted.

...6 weeks later, they sent him to Iraq.

5. As my husband always says
whenever he reads about promises made by recruiters to young men and women, "Get It In Writing".

My sister's son, (19 yrs old) was considering enlisting.
He was told all sorts of things by his recruiter.

My husband said "get it in writing".

Recruiter refused to put it in black and white and my son walked out.
