Judicial ethics trial of ``Ten Commandments' judge expected to begin
Judicial ethics trial of ``Ten Commandments' judge expected to begin

BOB JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer Wednesday, November 12, 2003
(11-12) 01:26 PST MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) --

Suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore says he did not violate judicial ethics when he ignored a judge's order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from his courthouse.

"I was just upholding my oath of office. The constitution of Alabama requires me to acknowledge God," Moore said.

The man prosecuting him, Attorney General Bill Pryor, maintains Moore's action was "sensational flouting of a valid federal injunction."

As Moore's trial begins Wednesday, many of his supporters were expected to gather outside the judicial building to urge the Court of the Judiciary members to find Moore innocent.

Experts in Alabama politics and legal traditions say the trial of a chief justice fighting for his job is a first in the state. (snip/...)

1. Excellent
I'm holding my breath though. Those hicks down there will probably storm the capital if he is removed from the bench.

2. Go ahead and breath.
Regardless of the trial outcome, the number of hard-core Moore supporters is about enough to storm a Taco-Bell. They want the government to enforce their dogma because they don't have the stones to try it themselves.

And stink out the hearing///

Seriously I saw some of these nut cases on TV the other day. They are so embarrassing, that not even the Chimp's handlers want them on their side.

11. Don't be skeered.
That's what they're counting on. In a face-to-face, most (99.99999%) won't dare flex on ya. All talk no walk.

6. This vermin is getting exactly what he wants
A sensational trial, removal from office, and a platform on which to run for Governor of Alabama.

Sadly, we won't see the last of Roy Moore.

9. He'll just run for Congress
If they boot him, I'm afraid he'll wind up in an elected position. Would an ethics finding block that possibility?

10. I hope they disbar the SOB
When a judge choses to flout the law they are nolonger impartial and need to be removed forever from practicing law or sitting in judgement. How can he possibly say he is a complete follower of Bible law when it says plainly Judge not lest thee be judged.

12. Moore's making an ass of himself
Oath of office made me do it, Alabama justice says

November 13, 2003

BY BOB JOHNSON

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Prosecutors urged a judicial panel to oust suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore on Wednesday for disobeying a federal judge's order to move his Ten Commandments monument from the state courthouse rotunda -- a defiant stand that Moore said was moral and lawful.

Moore, whose cause has rallied religious conservatives across the country, argued he was upholding his oath of office and promises to Alabama voters when he refused to move the monument.

''Not only did I fulfill what I told the people of Alabama I would do, I also had a duty to uphold the constitutions of the United States and the state of Alabama. They both acknowledge God,'' Moore said.

Attorney General Bill Pryor, who is prosecuting Moore, told the court in opening statements that they should remove the chief justice from office because of his ''utterly unrepentant behavior.''

14. Roy Moore gets the verdict

Suspended Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore listens to his verdict before the Alabama Court of the Judiciary in Montgomery, November 13, 2003. Moore was removed from office on Thursday for refusing to obey a federal order to move a Ten Commandments monument in a dispute that fueled a national debate over the place of God in public life. The nine members of Alabama's Court of the Judiciary unanimously voted to remove Roy Moore, who was elected to a six-year term as the state's top judge in 2000. Photo by Mickey Welsh, Pool/Reuters

I am reminded of that great inspirational song, "He." It goes something like this:

He still finds the time to hear a child's first prayer
Saint or sinner calls and always finds him there
Though it makes him sad to see the way we live
He'll always say "I forgive"
