US general won't rule out chance of Iraq civil war

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. commander in Iraq said on Friday that the crisis of sectarian violence triggered by last week's bombing of a Shi'ite shrine has passed but refused to rule out the possibility of a civil war.

Army Gen. George Casey, briefing reporters at the Pentagon by teleconference from Iraq, also said he has not made any decision yet on whether to recommend to the Pentagon and President George W. Bush reductions in U.S. troop levels in Iraq, saying a recommendation on force size will be made in the spring.

3. We Are Winning(?)
The Bush administration will declare victory just before the 2006 elections. The key for them is to keep muddying the waters and re-defining vague objectives as to what we are supposed to be doing. Whatever the situation is come October, that is what we are trying to do.

Coalition Commander Says Iraq Crisis Has Passed

By Al Pessin
Washington
03 March 2006

The American commander of coalition forces in Iraq says the crisis caused by the bombing of a Shi'ite mosque in Samara 10 days ago has passed, and that the violent reaction to the bombing was not as extensive as some reports indicated.

General Casey was concise in his assessment of the current security situation in Iraq.

"I do believe that the crisis part of this has passed," he said.

The general said most of the violent reaction to the mosque bombing was centered on Baghdad and Basra, and that there was little or no violence in most of the country. And he said many reports of attacks on mosques turned out to be false. Overall, he reported severe damage to only two or three mosques, about 350 Iraqi civilian casualties and only about 20 demonstrations that involved more than one thousand people, none with significant violence.

Besides that, everything's great! Now once again, how many fingers am I holding up?

7. Wow that was quick. It only took them 10 days to get over the bombing
of a national 1 and only treasure.

You'd think Bush could do that with 9/11.

11. Certainly, 1400 dead Iraqis in less than 10 days isn't a problem. Guess
he's unaware of the true extent of civilian casualties.

20. I agree with you....the culprit major news networks...
We are not getting the coverage that we should...

The media has sliced and diced the news and skewed so far to the right that half of the population is unaware that there is a movement out here....

That is the crux of the problem and until we can find a way to counteract that...we will continue to have problems...getting the truth out!!

Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 06:22 PM by DoYouEverWonder
isn't such a big hit after all. Glad the Iraqis aren't all falling for the PNAC plan for their region. I think the Shite and Sunni differences are a lot more hype then reality. Just like the Amazing Zarqarwi. If the US would just get the hell out and let the Iraqis have their country back, I bet there would not be civil war.

29. That's easy to explain!
Anytime they go 30 minutes without a bomb going off the current crisis is over. Then when the next one explodes its a whole new crisis.

So they went, like, several hours without a car bomb, which means that crisis is really old news!

See, its really very simple! :sarcasm:

.

Hmmmmm :freak:

My Canuk calender says that the first day of Spring is March 20th

But it also says the first day of Summer is June 21st

so,

knowing this Administration - may we expect a "recommendation" by June 20th?

And then of course it will have to go through months if not years of deliberations . . . .

Just more NON-news from this maladministration methinks . .
