http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2003/11/12/national1331EST0609.DTL&type=printable

(11-12) 10:31 PST WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) --

Rush Limbaugh will return to his radio talk show Monday after completing a five-week treatment program for his addiction to painkillers, his brother said Wednesday.

David Limbaugh made the announcement to Internet personality Matt Drudge, who was sitting in Wednesday for the conservative commentator.

"He's obviously chomping at the bit to get back to doing what he does best," David Limbaugh said.

His brother said the host successfully completed the first phase of his treatment. He did not say what the next step is.

I agree, he probably does want to eat some more oxies lickity-split.

2. That's fantastic!

He'll do one more broadcast, say goodbye to his fans and turn himself in to the police, right? I mean, after all, Rush is ALL ABOUT personal responsibility and taking accountability for one's own actions, right?

What Rush did was clearly and blatantly illegal. I expect him to do the right thing as a conservative, law-abiding citizen and to turn himself in to the authorities and confess fully.

3. Rush Limbaugh - the Daryl Strawberry of Radio
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 02:41 PM by ThorsteinVeblen
The guy is not going to change his life. He is going to commit to the downward spiral in which he destroys himself, his family and his career.

His format, his status, his political vitriol, his power, which he loves above everything else, all demand retreat into chemical bliss. He cannot hate without destroying himself. He cannot live the life he is living without medicating himself.

He knows what he is doing. He is responsible. He has made a choice in the last month. Pity him.

Turn the dawgs and 9mms loose on that drug dealer Rush 8ball, you know he was trafficing! Rush raved and ranted about nobody being above the LAW when the Repubs were impeaching Clinton! I wonder if he still feels the same way?

21. Rush the 12-Stepper
Rush will indeed have to make amends, if he's working the Steps. But that's one of the later steps, which some take years to get to, and, let's face it: we have no evidence that Rush is actually "working the Program." I am certainly looking forward to hearing him when he comes back "on air."

48. My favorite columnist has some input
on pringles and a lot of the other crap we eat:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2003/11/12/notes111203.DTL

"...Maybe we need to start reading ingredient lists. Compare. Contrast. Ask basic and commonsense questions, like, which is better, the natural chips with four organic ingredients, or the preliquefied heat-molded salt-crusted Pringles Xtreme Ranch, with 142 unpronounceable ones made by Dow Chemical? Feign ignorance, and ignore the obvious difference at your, and your body's, peril. "

and a lot more to say at the link. love Mark Morford indeed.

I have the same Pilonidal cyst Rush has, but alas, I don't have the major cash ($5000) to have it removed. You wanna pay my surgical bills? I've suffered with this thing for the last 15 years. So say what you want to about Limbaugh, but desist with the "boil-because-he's-a-conservative" stuff. That's like dissing Julius Caesar because he was an epileptic.

25. He did not say what the next step is: RELAPSE
5 weeks ain't shit. "First phase" means the physical withdrawals are over for now. True recovery requires a fundamental shift in worldview, from substance-reliance to self-reliance.

What has he changed in 5 weeks? If he continues the same lifestyle patterns and habits, the best he can manage is a "dry drunk".

I hope he gets some calls asking about how he plans to take personal responsibility for violating federal substance control laws.

People do not grow Oxycontin. They steal it. And people are often k i l l e d in the robberies. People who are hooked on it (who don't have jobs as hatemongering radio hosts) develop criminal lifestyles to support their habits--just ask Rush--and are at risk for relapse without

strict treatment requirements or containment.

45. if he were serious about recovery
he'd probably take some time off - and try a six month transitional program, seeing as how he's tried stopping and rehab twice before.

As much as I cherish the thought of an epiphany where he had to make amends - I think what we'll get is the usual suspect - possibly even angrier and more bellicose than ever.

The seed of doubt has been planted, though. Even the most slobbering fans will always have a scrid of doubt, wondering if he's high or not.
