Will this case decide the future of free speech zones? Those of us who work and protest with Brett Bursey hope the outcome of his case will outlaw these zones.
However, as the article notes, the administration has pushed this particular case because it is in the most conservative federal judiciary circuit in the US.
Here is the update on his trial.

Bush protester refused to move
Brett Bursey said he welcomed arrest at airport, witnesses testify in trial

Antiwar protester Brett Bursey would not move from a presidential protection zone, was contentious and wanted to be arrested, government witnesses testified Wednesday as Bursey’s federal trial began.
Bursey, 55, is perhaps the only protester in the nation facing criminal prosecution on charges of violating the protection zone, his lawyers said. If convicted, Bursey faces up to six months in prison and $5,000 in fines stemming from President Bush’s Oct. 24, 2002, visit to Columbia.
The prosecution completed its case in a courtroom so crowded the judge allowed extra chairs in the Perry federal courthouse.
Bursey is to testify today as the defense presents its case.
His attorney, Lewis Pitts, contends the Bush administration is trying to chill dissent by targeting Bursey in the nation’s most conservative federal judicial circuit.
