High court says NAACP can challenge One Florida policies
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the NAACP can challenge rules eliminating racial and gender preferences in university admissions.

The 4-3 ruling overturned a 2002 decision by the 1st District Court of Appeal dismissing the civil rights group's challenge to Gov. Jeb Bush's "One Florida" initiative and his "Talented 20" guarantee. The court said the NAACP hadn't shown evidence that students would be "substantially affected" by Bush's rules.

One Florida eliminated race as a consideration in college admissions, while the Talented 20 plan guarantees admission to the top 20 percent of each of Florida's graduating public high school classes. The governor has said the program will increase racial diversity in the state's universities and colleges. (snip/...)

1. Good
This will reward hard work, instead of rewarding laziness and reliance upon racial quotas.
