Poll Shows Americans' Views on Iraq War
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20031113/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_opinion

AMERICA STARTS TO WAKE UP! Highlights:

An overwhelming majority of those polled — 87 percent — said the Bush administration portrayed Iraq as an imminent threat before the war. About as many, 84 percent, say the United States has not found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq...

Six in 10 say that before going to war, the U.S. government should have taken more time to find out if Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

Those who believe the war was based on faulty assumptions about Iraq are divided on whether the president knew the assumptions were false, according to the poll conducted by Knowledge Networks.

Despite these doubts, a majority, 57 percent, said the United States made the right decision going to war against Iraq — down from 68 percent who felt that way in May.

3. Just weird. "Yeah, he lied, but it's okay with us!"
57 percent think it was a good idea? Even though he totally lied about it?

Hey, it's always a good idea to invade another country! We were kinda bored, after all.

4. It is a good idea to them because they believe
that this will lead to lower gasoline prices.

5. The lies weren't for them.
I suspect that a slim majority of Americans, or damn close to one, simply don't believe that war should be reserved for self-defense, no matter what it says in that UN charter we signed. The prevailing spirit in America seems to be the precise opposite of the Nuremburg principles -- it is a tragedy of history we see played out today that while the tribunal was working so insistently to ensure that Germans understood their leaders' crime was not losing a war but starting it, America has expended no parallel effort hammering that point into its own citizens. So the people don't care if we war with Iraq was necessary, so long as more of them are dying than us.
