Best job market in 5 years for grads: report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. college graduates are facing the best job market since 2001, with business, computer, engineering, education and health care grads in highest demand, a report by an employment consulting firm showed on Monday.

"We are approaching full employment and some employers are already dreaming up perks to attract the best talent," said John Challenger, chief executive of Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

In its annual outlook of entry-level jobs, Challenger, Gray & Christmas said strong job growth and falling unemployment makes this spring the hottest job market for America's 1.4 million college graduates since the dot-com collapse in 2001.

The firm pointed to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers which showed employers plan to hire 14.5 percent more new college graduates than a year ago.

18. Registered nurses only need an associate's degree?

I thought they required a bachelor's degree, and that it was licensed practial nurses (LPNs) who needed the associate's degree. And if you're an executive secretary or administrative assistant (two entirely different jobs) without a college degree, forget the "moderate on the job training"--you'll need at least five years' experience to make up for it.

At the community college near me, there's an Associate Degree program in nursing (RN). 2 years. That's the norm anymore. Of course to advance in the profession you need a BSN or MSN.

degree; however, if they want to do non-floor work (get out of day-to-day nursing), they usually need a bachelor's or masters.

LPN's need a certificate -- at my local CC its a 1yr (full time) program.

24. The catch is that years ago, when kids started an entry-level job

they were either still young kids who lived at home with Mom & Dad and were skipping college, so they could "afford" the low pay-long hours....or they were college grads who were able to share expenses with others like themselves and since they had little or no debt yet, they too, could manage..

That's no the case now..

It;s taking kids 5-7 years to finish college and since they graduate with tens of thousands of dollars in debt, and are approaching their mid to late twenties, they don;t have TIME to waste..Lots get married and add marital/family debt on top of college debt.. It's no wonder everyone's stressed to the max..
