GOP Sen. Burns Faces Primary Challenge
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060322/ap_on_el_gu/senate_montana

Tue Mar 21, 11:05 PM ET

HELENA, Mont. - State lawmaker Bob Keenan said Tuesday that he will challenge U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns (news, bio, voting record) — who has been dogged by questions about ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff — in the GOP primary in June.

Keenan said previously that Burns could be vulnerable this year and that he was considering a run. In an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press, he said his filing was "in the mail."

He has said Republicans need a "viable option they can be proud of."

Keenan, 54, was first elected to the state House in 1994. He was elected to the state Senate in 1998 and was its president in 2003 and 2004, but now is up against term limits.

1. DEM Sen. Lieberman Faces Primary Challenge

T Senate: Lieberman Faces Primary Challenge, Criticism from Anti-War Candidate
By Marie Horrigan | 7:38 PM; Mar. 14, 2006
http://www.cqpolitics.com/2006/03/ct_senate_lieberman_faces_prim.html
The challenge Connecticut Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman has drawn this year from fellow Democrat Ned Lamont is a first for both. For Lieberman, who is seeking a fourth Senate term, it is the first time he has drawn primary competition in a re-election contest. For Lamont, a Greenwich businessman, it is his first bid ever for public office.

Lieberman is a solid favorite to win in November, and an upset by Lamont in the Aug. 8 primary looks highly unlikely.

But Lamont — who officially entered the race Monday in Hartford — is backed by anti-war activists angered by Lieberman’s support for President Bush’s policies in Iraq, and they hope the primary challenge will prod the incumbent to rethink his posture as the leading hawk among Senate Democrats.

2. "GOP Committee of Montana" made a LOT of calls to people last week
Bet they got an ear full about Conrad even in this area and that must have been a surprise.

Somebody called here doing a poll and was really upset that I kept asking who was paying for the poll. Seems they expected the citizens to just do as they were instructed and not used to the embarrassing questions they were getting. ;)

3. This is going to be interesting to watch
It is like he is branded with the big A...like in Scarlett Letter.

I wonder what it must be like for a guy like Abramoff to see that he has single handedly changed the course of the upcoming election season.

4. Burns is branded alright. And he is the only one who doesn't see it
as a problem.

Now would be a good time for the DEMS to get some ideas out there and start getting folks here to nod along with 'em ;)
