Monrovia - Rebels from the main Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) have been on a looting spree in the town of Bensonville just north of the capital, state radio reported on Thursday.
No casualties were reported during the looting rampage, but panicked residents fled into the bush as they were chased by rebels wielding machetes and other weapons, Bensonville Mayor Henrietta Nyah was quoted as saying by state radio.
Liberia's two former rebel groups - LURD and the Movement for Democracy in Liberia - signed an accord with the government on August 18 to help ensure lasting peace in the west African state, which has been battered by two civil wars in quick succession in the last 14 years.
