RUMSFIELD SAYS NO EARLY US PULLOUT FROM IRAQ

ANDERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Guam (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told U.S. forces in the Pacific on Friday there was no plan for an early withdrawal from Iraq (news - web sites), but Iraqis would get more power more quickly than initially thought.

1. humorous, but remember all posts in here have to have the article's title
in their title.

2. Oh. Didn't know that. (That's no fun!)
But an understandable rule.

Shows you how much I post in here.

The most recent post is just wrong. No problem then.

Edit to say: Forget it. Now (before this edit) I have THREE #791s.

7. Oh. I get it. Duh.
DU is the first place I've seen that does it that way, instead of numbering each post.

Duh.

I should go back and edit all my last posts, so I don't look like an idiot.

Nah. Too much trouble.

9. The signatures on all your past posts change
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 03:47 AM by w4rma
when you change your signature, also. That's because the pages are dynamically published. Some newer messageboard software have that capability. Older ones generally don't. So, it's understandable that you might not have seen this done elsewhere. :)

11. As long as there is a barrel of oil to pump
There will be no pull out. This is a "generational" deal.
The Bushies are still banking on the idea that everything is going to smooth out and we will forget about the troops stationed there, just like Europe, Japan and elsewhere.

They will never allow those oil fields to fall into the hands of Iraqi Islamic nationalists.

12. I don't know. I think they have a choice:
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 03:53 AM by mw
Let the oil fields fall into the hands of Islamists,

or,

Let the White House fall into the hands of Democrats.

I'm sensing that the latest Bremer meeting was Rove's choice--the White House--trumping Halliburton's choice--the oil fields.

Which means that they'll have to time the Iraqi handover perfectly:

1. HAND OVER IRAQ

2. 2004 US ELECTION

3. IRAQ FALLS (a la SAIGON)

in that order.

All three will happen. But:

If 2 happens before 1, Bush loses.

If 3 happens before 2, Bush loses.

13. if they hand over Iraq
and Iraq collapses or implodes into civil war (which is possible since Saddam is still out there) - then so much for "liberating the Iraqi people"

Meanwhile - Afghanistan is still in a mess, Karzai (sp?) is basically just in contol of Kabul,- Taliban, Bin-lden and Al-Qaeda are stillrunning around

so what makes Baghdad-Bush think an early withdrawal with Saddam still running around is going to make Iraq safer for democracy?

Sounds like the same bushit gearing up to rattle sabers and bang the war drums we heard before we ivaded Iraq - does this mean Iran or Syria is next?

Two years on, war is still a blight on Afghanistan
FOREIGN STAFF

AFGHANISTAN was rocked by a series of explosions and skirmishes yesterday, two years after the Taleban fled the capital, Kabul, under cover of darkness.

Two explosions, one caused by a rocket, went off outside a coalition base in southern Afghanistan, and US and Afghan soldiers clashed with fighters in the north-east.

The first explosion occurred outside the small coalition camp in Kandahar province, where pro-Taleban forces have been stepping up attacks against coalition forces and international relief agencies, said a US military spokesman, Colonel Rodney Davis.

Two hours later, a rocket fired by unidentified attackers landed near the base, Col Davis said. Neither attack caused casualties or damage, he said.

Yesterday marked the two-year anniversary of the day the US-backed Northern Alliance forces entered Kabul, the Afghan capital, after the Taleban had fled.

Kandahar and other southern provinces were once Taleban militia strongholds, and the US-backed government of President Hamid Karzai wields little power in the region.

14. with the media in the chimpass's hands the US can leave Iraq a mess...
and get away with it. Afghanistan is a perfect example. Most Americans believe it is a success story with the Taliban and al-Qaida long gone!

18. Asia trip to 'make' Japan send people?
If Bush lets Iraq take over he can blame all deaths on them. If someone will please send troops to be killed we can get ours home and Bush can sail into office as a God who saved man kind. What a mess.

17. It will end when the WHOLE WORLD says "NO MORE US AGGRESSION"
and not a day before.....

And the world will go in to clean up what they can.....at our expense for many decades.

Woops.......forgot that we installed a murderous thug in Iraq: Chalabi. He isn't going to let anyone help clean up. He finally got his very own kingdom.

23. Russia and France will protect their interests.
This is an historical blunder by an illegal cabal. We need to load up the boats and bring our fellow Americans home now. The doom and gloom predictions for IRAQ are RW bull_hit. The countries in that region have too much at stake to allow 'no government'. Terrorists have always been payed-off or killed, never formed a government. Saddam back? so what that old bastard was never a threat.
