<snip>WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats capped a nonstop U.S. Senate debate of nearly 40 hours on Friday by sustaining a procedural hurdle against one of President Bush (news - web sites)'s four blocked federal appeals court nominees, Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen.

Democrats were also ready to block two additional conservative judicial nominees on Friday -- California jurists Carolyn Kuhl and Janice Rogers Brown -- to raise to the number stonewalled to six.

1. Y'know, *'s concern about Judges makes perfect sense...
After all, if nine of 'em hadn't voted 5-4 in his favor back in 2000 he might not be called "Mr. President" today.

And THEN (to paraphrase Trent Lott)....

WE MIGHT NOT BE HAVING
ALL THE %$^#@*&(*!!! PROBLEMS
LIKE WE DO NOW!!!

2. Today I am proud of my Democratic Senators....
they have finally stood up to the rightwing tactics. Let us hope that they can sustain their resolve thru November 2004.

A :toast: to the Dems!!

4. And exactly what did this accomplish?
The nation's business went undone in the Senate for nearly two days (not counting the additional day it will take the members to rest up). And, this time, it does not look like the Media fell for the bait.

Surprisingly, I kept hearing the talking heads refer to "98 per cent of bu$h's nominees having been confirmed already" and Democratic arguments that better than 60 of Clinton's nominees were scuttled by Repug delays.

I believe the Pug leadership misunderstimated this one.
