New Lieberman Ad Takes Swipes at Dean
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, trailing his major rivals in New Hampshire, takes a few soft swipes at front-runner Howard Dean in a new television ad that began airing Friday.

``I don't think it's right to have raised a divisive symbol like the confederate flag. Or to give up on principles like limiting the amount of money in campaigns,'' Lieberman says in the commercial

He doesn't name Dean, but the subject is clear. The former Vermont governor recently came under fire for saying he wanted to be the candidate of Southern whites who drive pickup trucks with the Confederate flag. Dean also rejected public financing and the accompanying spending limits during the primary.

Shut up, Joe.

1. Does he sing jingles in his ad?
Hope he runs them a LOT, so he finishes off his paltry corporate campaign war chest and just goes back to being a worn out old fart that no one listens to.

4. When candidates stoop this low, distorting and bashing,
it's terrible for their campaigns because it's an insult to the American people. Does the Lieberman campaign really think that the American people didn't hear what Dean said?

18. I don't think Lieberman said anything wrong
I am heavily leaning toward Dean, so much so that he would have to really screw up not to get my support, but what Joe said was truthful.
Dean did abandon his finance position. He stated that position in very strong terms in March and walked away from it, although I do think it was the right thing to do. Dean also was the person who let the Confederate flag statement out of his mouth. Regardless of his intended meaning, it was a bad choice of words. There are plenty of other ways to refer to southern white males.

This is a primary and the gloves will come off, anyone who doesn't see that coming is denying reality.

3. Quote should read:
``I don't think it's right to have raised a divisive symbol like the confederate flag. Or to give up on principles like limiting the amount of money in campaigns,'' Lieberman says in the commercial, before putting his lips back on Bush's ass.

19. He also raises the divisive symbol of the confederate flag
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 02:01 PM by Classical_Liberal
while criticizing Dean for it. He also claims that because Dean doesn't want to unilaterally limit his spending on the campaign, that this means he has given up on the idea which is just way dumb, and probably represents petty jealosy.

5. You know what's sad?
Poor Joe SERIOUSLY needs to give up and avoid further humiliation. BUT, I imagine he thinks that because he was polling high (relatively speaking) in so many national polls -- which really still even now are mostly measuring name recognition -- must think he still has some sort of chance.

He doesn't. It's over. It's BEEN over. When will he get the message?

12. I think he's still hoping for the VP spot
But he doesn't have a chance in hell for that, especially if he keeps bashing the top candidates.

admitting that he doesn't have Al Gore's endorsement. He said he was still trying to "earn" that.

Pathetic! He sounded like a cast-off wife hoping that her *hole husband will see the error of his ways and come back home. Like Billy Pilgrim's wife. "I'll lose weight for you, Billy!"

6. Joe's a fine one to talk about giving up on principles
I wonder if he's like a new set of kneepads for his birthday, as he might have worn out the ones he's got by now.

...when seeing Joe on TV that his head shakes a bit? I especially noticed it during the Phoenix debate and wondered if he has Parkinson's disease.

22. Honestly, he seems desperate.
His desperation feeds off hope to win and, at least, to avoid being humiliated by wholesale rejection from the electorate.

11. Oh, PLEASE! What do you expect? This is a primary.
Things will get nastier than this. I agree it's a low blow, but that's what politics (or any competition) is about at this level. My bet is that Mosley-Braun is the only candidate who doesn't run attack ads (if she even stays in long enough).

Yeah, it stinks that this is what has to happen, but Lieberman (as much as I dislike him) is just playing the game. The next move is for Dean to make in indignant statement. Then Lieberman either ignores Dean or defends the ad. Repeat with some other candidate.

It's politics, people.

23. or take cues from Rove
to make his nasty snarky comments -

the only good thing that came out of the 2000 mis-election was that Holy Joe didn't get the VP slot.

This guy is an embarrassment to the Democratic Party and I despise him for his toady ways.

16. Sure, the redneck flag was a blunder...
...but mainly a symbolic blunder. It's trivial next to Lieberman's conscious support of right wing deregulatory policies, intolerant cultural views, and backing of Ariel Sharon's apartheid policies.

25. Joe's Campaign = A Cat Shitting on a Mirror.
Good grief. This guy is simply clueless. Does he really think that attacking Howard Dean will give him a lift in the polls in New Hampshire?

Who is advising him? Perhaps that's the problem. His staff knows not to ever tell him the truth, but understand that their paychecks are dependent on sucking up to his ego and vanity.

Lieberman's entire campaign is embarrassing to himself now and is truly pathetic.

The old Texan addage applies here: Lieberman's campaign looks more and more like "a cat shitting on a mirror".

Where is Chuck Barris' gong when one needs it?
